Personal Narrative: Real Estate Appraiser
Hello, everyone! I am Qin. Currently, I work as a real estate appraiser in Canada---I estimate residential property market values for banks/credit unions. Prior to this, I worked as a project manager for an agricultural equipment exporter for over 3 years. SMU’s MBA program will help me to piece together my various work experiences. I am originally from China. I used to live in Singapore for 4 years for secondary school. I absolutely love the food in Singapore. The warm weather is another big bonus for me, considering it is already snowing here in Canada. I enjoy hiking, camping, running and few beers. Give me a shout if any of you guys enjoy these too! I am looking forward to meeting you all on campus

The important pursuit of financial success is an idea that has been drilled into my head by the adults in my life from early on; my parents struggled in life, and for me they wanted a better, easier, future for me. What I took away from this was that I would not be successful and happy without the money and credentials as well. I could not understand why so many of my classmates wanted to be writers and artists; didn't they too want to be successful? However, the summer before my senior year, I had an idea that would change my thought process forever: a visit to the gateway of success, the Naval Academy.…

To be able to find the best candidate for the interview I had to look everywhere and had to ask everyone for an interview, but after getting turned down from a couple agents turns out that my friends real estate agent is one of the best and well know respected person at what he does, his name is Ludyn Tijerino. Mr. Tijerino works for an agency called Approved 4 keys. I was able to get in contact with this person through a favor done from my friend. My overall assessment of this interview is that it turns out that in the real estate business there is more to it than what I had imagine. Many of the questions that I had asked seemed to be answered by the time I got there for interview. Mr. Tijerino Seems to be a real great person at what he does and how he deals with his business, but three very important aspects that seemed pretty relevant about him is that he was very clear about what he said and got the point across thoroughly with effectiveness, second he seems to be a person very well connected and constantly communicating with other professionals, third his he had very good Non-Verbal communications in which he made me not feel nervous around him while conducting the interview.…

While attending this school, I plan to become more proficient at researching Internet databases such as Westlaw and Lexis/Nexis. Learning how to effective research and investigate documents will give me a keen understanding of the contracts and cases my attorney is working on. I spoke with Scotty regarding the home. He pleasantly introduced himself and provided his assistance. Scotty listened attentively and patiently to my questions. He paused to reference the property file and then informed me that the home was still available with no present offers. Scotty was friendly, but did not make an effort to build rapport. He asked questions to help understand my buyer's needs. Although Scotty provided information about the home he did not speak in an encouraging tone of voice. In general, I found him to be a polite and professional…

Being an attorney, what a stressful yet rewarding career. Or so my cousin, Katie Whitman Myers has told me. Katie is an Insurance and Reinsurance attorney in New Orleans. Boy oh boy, what the hell does that even mean? I asked when she told me that was the type of law she practiced, and as she chuckled she told me, “Insurance coverage, we write letters telling insurance companies what to do in certain situations and represent them if there’s a lawsuit or something.” So what really is an Insurance Attorney? Why does she have to help the insurance companies and “tell them what to do”? “The contract made between an insurance company and a third party to protect the insurance company from losses. The contract provides for…

I have been immersed in the workplace for the past eight years at Goodwell Electronics, Inc., a rapidly growing OEM company. Due to the demanding pace of my schedule, I used my annual vacation time to travel abroad. My travels have given me a deeper understanding of the mindsets of people in different countries as well as the diverse cultural customs and attitudes that exist in different parts of the world. Similarly, my supervisor at Goodwell Electronics frequently traveled overseas in order to expand the company’s business into new markets. I was impressed by his international style of thinking and acting and his strong awareness of global business. My association with this supervisor, as well as my previous travels, has inspired me to pursue a career with an international focus. In the future, I aspire to hold a managerial role in a multinational business; achieving this goal, however, requires that I have an international education and develop a more globalized viewpoint. Your MBA program is a key step in adequately preparing for my future goals.…
