In Robin Wilson’s article A Lifetime of Student Debt? Not Likely, Wilson compares on how even though student loans can get out of control; they do not have to affect the rest of a person’s life. Wilson begins with stating a possible “…national crisis: Student loan borrowing that is threatening the financial future of today’s college students” (256). In other words, Wilson’s statement issues that student loans are beginning to get out of control. On the other hand, many other people borrow an acceptable amount of money, are able to repay it, and become a better person by getting a college education. According to Wilson, “More often, the problem among students who go heavily into debt is that they are determined to attend their dream college, no matter the…
Hammurabi’s Code was harsh and quick in order to serve as a deterrent. The code’s harshness made people see what would happen to them if they broke the law. His code stopped people from breaking the law, so it protected the weak from the strong. The U.S does not have a harsh and quick system. In fact, it is very slow and does not have many major punishments. Many laws are broken in the U.S because our laws do not serve as a deterrent. If Hammurabi visited the U.S today I think he would not be pleased and he would not feel that his ideal was not being met. Hammurabi wanted to protect the weak from the strong, but the system of laws the United States has does not execute this. People rob, hurt, and even kill people on a day to day basis! Hammurabi…
While I agree that student loan debt is always in the back of a medical student’s mind, I disagree with the idea that it is a significant driving force for specialty choice or that it prevents people from entering primary care. Just as the data in this article suggests, I believe most medical students choose their specialty based upon personality fit and how well a specialty complements their interests, goals, and values. In my personal experience, enjoying a clerkship and feeling a connection with individuals within a given specialty increases the likelihood of considering said specialty, regardless of potential for monetary gain. Monetary gain may be a secondary factor for some students, depending upon their goals, however I do not believe…
The exhilarating novel centers on a little girl named Anita de la Torre, and her life as the infamous dictator Trujillo ruled the Dominican Republic. Anita is a character that strongly portrays the traits of innocence and naiveness. She goes to school at the American school in the Dominican Republic. The school has a picture of “El Jefe” hanging up and Anita seems to look up to him as a person: she believes that one day she will be greeted by him as “the girl who never cries”. However, as the secrets of El Jefe unfold, Anita discovers that he tortures and makes many Dominicans “disappear”. Half of her family has fled to the United States when it was safe and the other half had to remain in hiding. Secret police called SIM, invade the compound that Anita and her family live in and restrict the children from normal activities like school. On Anita’s sister’s fifteenth birthday party, El Jefe arrives and shows interest in her, in order to keep her safe she is sent to the United States.…
My high school experience has leaded me to discover several academic strengths and interests, which now relate to my career choice for the future. My academic interest in financial literacy has made an impact on my academic strengths, which include: leadership, organization, communication, critical-thinking, and writing. Due to my interest in financial literacy, I want to pursue a career in business and real estate. This interest spiked during my junior year while I was recovering from knee surgery. After my procedure, I was expected to be absent from school for five days; however, due to a complication, I was forced to stay home for an unexpected, extended period of time. Before my surgery, I gathered all the homework that I anticipated missing.…

Throughout every college experience there are two sides to every story. The text made me realize, through vivid examples that I remember learning when I was younger, such as the gods and the giants, something that I have been told since I was young. That I have to always think twice before I think say or do anything.…
Like everyone else I have been put the test and have gone through trials and tribulations to get to where I am today. However, many people have not experienced the same hardships as myself. I am a first generation college student and I reside in a household that's income is rather low. Being a first generation college student has been a challenge that I am immensely proud of achieving. Being a pioneer for my family's future of acedemic success is an exhilarating feeling. I am proud that I was able to be accepted to college in order to improve myself in and out of the classroom. If I am fortuitous enough to receive this scholarship I will make it my mission to use it in the best way…
Coming from a low income family, I understand my parents won’t be able to assist me financially. FAFSA is a life changing opportunity, and so are scholarships and government grants. Scholarship money will ease the fees for tuition, books, living, and everything I need to attend the University of Texas at Austin. I have a passion for hearing other languages, it’s amazing to me. The structure, tone, and expression changes completely! I watch reality south Korean shows, Japanese anime, and read biographies from people who have traveled to other countries like India. Currently, I have apps and dictionaries for french and ASL to reach my goal: to become multilingual. The best opportunities are in the beginning, and I plan on taking advantage of…
My education will never be complete. This knowledge affords me the ability to grow each and every day. It teaches me to question the world and to learn from these questions. I learn through different lenses and circumstances I experience each day. At seventeen, I am nowhere near complete. I am young. I am flawed. I am naïve. What I have learned has led me down different paths in order to achieve different milestones on my own journey. I am strong. I am creative. I am poised...but most importantly I am learning. My education has allowed me to learn about myself, about others, and about the world. I am evolving through the educational process and through the effort of acquiring knowledge. I have no idea what I will learn tomorrow --some days…
When I first started my college education, I never would have thought that I would be where I am today. I transferred over to Temple University the spring semester of my freshmen year of college. I remember how frustrating those first couple month were for me as a college freshman. I had to adjust to a lot of new changes such as, a new campus, new people, new courses etc. I struggled a lot that semester but made through it with the help of the great professors and advisor. There were always great resources available to me no matter what needed. From then on I learned to manage my time and I knew how much work I had to put in to reach my goals. The next three undergraduate years were tough due to the rigorous coursework but I was able to…
Student loans are something that haunts us all. It even scares some people from wanting to go to college just because they don't want to face the student loans afterwards. 70% of graduates are leaving school with some extra financial baggage. So, they made a thing called “Student Loan Forgiveness” this is a program that helps out working people manage their student loan debt after 10 years. The question is, is this really a good program like it may seem? They say that having student loan forgiveness will help boost the economy by allowing the people who just got out of college to be able to afford nice things like houses and cars, allowing the economy to boost. Although that may potentially be true, there are many other…
