Personal Narrative-Ron Artest
In the early to mid 2000s Metta World Peace then known as Ron Artest was one of the most feared defense players in the league. In his prime he was able to guard all five positions, however nothing last forever and like everyone else father time caught up with World Peace.

Today the trophy for the most feared defender in the NBA goes to PJ Tucker of the Toronto Raptors. He’s one of the best defensive players in the perimeter or in the post. His basketball journey started at Texas and has taken him all over the world. He had a stint in the NBA during the 2006-2207 season before playing the next five seasons overseas, in Israel, the Ukraine, Germany, Italy, and Greece. I believe his stints overseas are what fueled his ruthless aggressive defense.

I know a lot of these dudes. I have a good relationship with Kyle (Lowry). Demar (Derozan),and Corey (Joesph) and I both went to Texas. I knew a lot of these guys already before coming here”.

Where you when you got the news that you were no longer apart of the Suns?

Actually I was in the shower in the locker room in Phoenix. One of the guys came up to me and told me. The trade-in is a crazy thing man, a lot of guys are sitting on pins and needles but at the end of the day you can’t worry about the things you can’t control.

How did the trade affect your family?

It didn't affect them that much, they’re relaxed in Phoenix but they know it's part of the job.

You’re one of the most versatile players in the league, you can play multiple positions on defense. How do you see yourself fitting in with the team?

I’m just trying to find my food offensively, and defensively. I’m still trying to figure out my way around, when I’m out on the floor I just try to compliment everybody, I don't try to do to much I just try to do my job.

Every team has a player that you really have to lock down on. Carmelo Anthony is definitely one of the hardest players I ever guarded. I’ve been playing against him for a very long time.

With yourself and Serge Ibaka on the roster, the Raptors are now prime to make another run with the Cavs in the Eastern Conference Finals. What is your ultimate goal with the team?

My goal is to win a championship with these guys, I think we have one of the top rosters in the East and I feel we can make run. Anything less than championship aspirations is disappointing.

You’re one of the biggest sneaker heads in the NBA. What are some of your favorite sneakers?

I like different ones, I’ll probably go with the Nike Yeezys, they’re probably my favorite shoe. I like a lot of different Huarache

How many pairs do you have in your collection?

I have over 2,000 pairs give or take.

I thought I was bad.
Yea man I’ve been collecting for years and years.

What are your all-time favorite sneakers?
Air Jordan 3, 4, and 6 are my all time favorite sneakers

What goes into your decision into what you're going to wear on the court?

It depends on my mood, I just grab whatever is comfortable and go out and

When I first arrived at Rotunda D I thought to myself great I get to stand the whole time because there is not one open seat. Dean Nickels started the event off by introducing Scott Naggy, head boys basketball coach. Naggy then talked a little about how they recruit players for South Dakota State University. He then introduced two of his players. The first was from the West side of Chicago, he talked about how he would play basketball to escape from the hardships of growing up in West Chicago. The second player was from Michigan, he explained how basketball was the main sport played in that area. He explained how the teachers there didn't care how the students do in there class they will just pass them to get rid of them. He…

The Toronto Raptors (50-31) begin their march back to the Eastern Conference Finals against the Milwaukee Bucks (42-39). The Raptors are the more talented team top- to-bottom and boast a much stronger ORTG and DRTG at 6th and 8th in the league respectively. Comparatively, the Bucks are only 16th in ORTG and 18th in DRTG. However, the Bucks may have the best player in the series, the “Greek Freak” Giannis Antetokounmpo. Giannis is in the midst of a breakout season with "Freakish" averages of 22.9 PPG, 8 RPG, 5.4 APG, 1 SPG and 1.9 BPG. Alternatively, the Raptors possess in my opinion the best point guard in the eastern conference Kyle Lowry. Lowry was enjoying a career-best season, averaging 22 PPG 5 RPG 7 APG 2 SPG and a scorching hot 42% from…

When I came into this basketball program I had high hopes for my personal goals and my personal ability I wanted to achieve while on this team. Then as my red shirt year came to a close I could honestly look around the locker room and say for every teammate in the room I would sacrifice myself to help them out in anyway I could. This strong “brotherhood” that is created within this team comes from the hard work that we put in and knowing that everyone else is putting in the same work. This changed my view of what I can do for myself, to these other guys deserve all that I can give and every play I can make. My team commitment came from the respect that I had for them because of their daily dedication and how hard they worked for the good of the team first, and then the development of their personal games. When older players take the time to explain to me how I should play and how I can improve what I do, they are committed to the team first. The Wheeling Jesuit program has a history of non selfish players that are hard working teammates and not so much looking for personal accolades. Knowing that my teammates are here for the same goals as I am helps me push myself when I do not want to, and helps us push each other when every one…
