It was incredible to see the channeling of so much effort and focus result in the exact achievement I had aimed for. As great a feeling as it was to have accomplished something I had dreamed of, it was far from completely satisfying. It was not long before the glory of one good championship race was erased and replaced with the anticipation of the next. Running has shown me that the only limits holding me back are the ones I entertain. My capabilities are in fact limitless and I can achieve anything I set my mind to.…
As I ran that hill I began to cry because of the pain. I thought my legs were going to give out from underneath me. The pain I was feeling helped me take a few strides that caused me to stumble a little, but soon regained my composure. I was at the top. All that was left was one last final turn, and then the downhill. I could see the finish line in the distance and then started sprinting. Coach Rojas was screaming at me to keep going and not to stop. At this point, my heart was pounding rapidly. My body was worn down, hot and exhausted. Crossing the finish line was the only thing on my mind. For a moment, I blocked off from the race and thought about all the hard work that went into the season. I crossed the finish line and at that moment I knew that I had put my sweat and tears into this race. I couldn’t feel my legs, all I wanted was water. Soon after I heard that we won Second place in the district which was the best the team has won. I felt no pain at this point since I was part of a group of people who loved this sport and put effort into it. It gave me happiness to be part of a team that now was like my…
“I got this! I got this! Just calm down and take position. You have prepared yourself for this race all morning.” “Just take your position and breathe.” “Why is my heart pounding like this?” “Inhale and exhale.” This is normal for UWA freshman Sarah McMillion on race day. She constantly overthinks and worries about her performance. Her nerves even cause her to wake up early to prepare.…
Have you ever felt the need to improve your life? I joined the cross country team in sixth grade to do just that. Cross country requires tremendous amounts of hard work, dedication, and never giving up to succeed in.…
I love to run. And I hope you will like it as much as me. Because you can stay fit and have fun. You can even race your friends. And this story is about why I like to run and how it can help you and me to stay fit.And you can even run to get away from things you don't think is safe or if a person chasing you.…
I shuffled across the field watching the running back take the ball running to the right side. I was the only one there to make the tackle Tyler and Kai both got blocked by Lineman and Landon got blocked by a receiver. I ran across the field, we both met at the pylon I only had to hit him out of bounds so I dove……. And I missed. As I fell to the ground my eyes were closed. I opened my eyes and I felt a sharp pain in my right elbow. It felt like my arm had split into 2. I looked over and I saw Landon.I said “ Landon go get the coaches I think I broke my arm.” I thought I had a broken arm. So he looked over at my arm and said “ Oh my gosh.” He started screaming for the coaches saying “Koen hurt his arm! Koen hurt his arm!” As Landon was getting them I was wondering what was going to happen to me. I was about to throw up, I…
My class and I took a few pictures before the race and we stretched a lot. A few minutes passed by and we had to get in our starting positions. So the race was about to start and there was hundreds of people around me and I was still a little nervous. The guy shot the gun up and I sprinted through many people. About half way through the first mile I slowed down and walked for a bit. Someone came up to me and said to at least jog. So I started jogging and I did that for about a mile and a half. Once it came to the second mile there was water cups, I grabbed two dumped one on my face and the other I drank. Since there was so many people I didn’t even know what place I was in or even how far I was. I was getting really tired but I hung in and sprinted the rest of the way. I could hear the crowd cheering so I ran like Forest Gump to get to the finish line. There was a timer when I crossed and it was about 35 minutes total and I finished.…
It was the first day of summer workouts and we had just got done stretching, we were getting ready to go with our individual coaches. When we were trying to work on inside run game and we needed a full back. I was a pretty big running back and not as fast as some of the others so all of the other players were telling me to play full back. I got mad and didn’t like being told to go to full back so I said “No”. The other guys were saying “you’re way too slow to play running back” and “You have never even played running back why would you try now”, I just took it all in and didn’t say anything. I continued to play running back and try and prove them wrong.…
I have been running since I started Modified Track and Field in the seventh grade. Running has been a part of my life ever since then. When I decided to join track I felt as though it was the worst mistake that I could have ever made, simply because i did not like running as a child. After trying it for the first year and not giving up I enjoyed it very much and that is when I stated that I would continue to run track till I graduated high school. Then came ninth grade and not only did I continue to do Outdoor Track but I also joined Indoor Track and it helped me improve with my running for Outdoor Track. I participated in Soccer from sixth grade till ninth grade, because come tenth grade I realized I had a strong passion for running,…
My high school cross country coach has been a very influential person to me. He has mentored me and encouraged me through four years of cross country. Because of his direction I trained myself into one of his fastest runners. I didn’t just get faster, I also learned a very important life lesson. To always try my best and be determined to achieve my goals. In one year I dropped my 5k time from a 19:08 to a 17:58. A result of my dedication. I know I won’t be the fastest runner, but I can be the hardest working…
Two days. Two days was how long the break between training for track, and training for cross country started. As a team our goal was to have the top 12 guys run 500 miles each, which at the time seemed to be an unreasonable goal. However Coach Hampton was confident that this was a reachable goal and encouraged not only the top 12 guys, but the the JV guys as well, to join in and train with the top 12.This was the summer of 2016, I had just had track state and made it to finals for the 4x8 only to get my relay disqualified because I cut into the inside lanes of the track before the cut off line. This had been our goal all season, make it to state, get to finals, and see what happens. Causing my relay to get disqualified is one my worst moments…
Two years ago, on a cold Saturday morning, I prepared for my first ever track tryout. I took a shower, put on my clothes, and got into the car. On my way to practice, I felt strong physically, but I also had an undefined, jittery feeling about how the day was going to go.…
I used to gag at the thought of running eight hundred meters. There I stood with my heart racing, ready to run five kilometers. To everyone else, this was an unimportant meet that even the coach said he did not care about. It was for me, however, more terrifying than losing my mom in the grocery store when I was a child. My first meet and all I could think of was my speed or lack thereof. I did not have distance spikes. I did not have a muscle roller. All I had was my heart in my throat paired with running shoes. Since the day before, my blood pressure had been rising and continued to do so.…
i always heard that cross country happened a dangerous sport, and to me, that was the exciting part about it. As the summer went on, my confidence that I would reach my prime grew undoubtedly stronger every time i would look at at the improvements I did during the summer when getting ready for my first high school cross country season. I finished the summer session of the season and everything went as planned, capturing three amazing races that had me in the top 20 for those meets and I looked good to make regionals that year until one day during practice, all of that would lead downhill. Running after school on a sunny afternoon with the team and getting ready for the city meet, which all of the Brownsville schools would go plus other nearby valley schools, the sun flared its heat in our faces but the wind cooled off our sweat for a refreshing…
The trail out back the beauty of nature and the smell of the fresh air. The leaves they’re falling all around you. As you walk the trail leads you to a big waterfall that not many people know about. As you just sit on the rock and watch the leaves fall while the sun sets it’s the most beautiful thing you could ever see. Listening to the birds make their music while lying on the rock besides the water. It’s calm and relaxing; However it can get a bit chilly. Sometimes if you take the four wheeler or dirt bike out back Zoey will run along side of you. Zoey is our dog she runs just as fast as the four wheeler does. Then I imagine of being a little girl again going out back with my dad. We used to catch salamanders on our way to where we were going.…
