Personal Narrative: Ryan Michael Beck
It was a cool and peaceful Tuesday in June, 1998 when I was born. I was born June 16, 1998 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD to an amazing and loving family. My dad Jeff worked the night shift at the Police Department and got home around 7 A.M. My mom Melissa had been up several times that night feeling well with minor contractions. So my parents decided to go to the hospital at around 8:30 A.M. I was a very quick and easy birth with no complications. I was born at 2:46 weighing 5lbs 11oz and 18 and a half inches tall. For the longest time I had no hair but I had the cutest brown eyes, according to my mom, Melissa. Because I was the first born baby and since I was a boy my Mom and Dad picked my name Ryan Michael Beck from

As the story is told, the first thing my dad said to my mom was, “She has red hair!”. And so the story begins, the story of me. I was born on a cold day, three days before my mom's birthday. When I was born, I was taken to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), because my mom had a fever when I was born and I was unable to regulate my body temperature. After three days, my family was able to bring me home.…

I have always wanted to hit a dinger since the day I started baseball. Keegan and I were warming up before the semi final game. It started off regular, he throws it to me, I throw it back. Then my team started taking pop ups, but me and keegan still got to warm up because he was starting pitcher and I was catching for him. It was pretty wet outside but that wouldn't stop us from playing our game.…

1st of all I think Ty Dooley did a great job speaking at the panel and really made look at things from a totally different prospective. Something that I’ve taken away from him during the event is even after we leave this diverse university environment it is up to each and every single one of us to keep the conversations going and regardless of the good and bad going on around us we should never forget about our heritage and background regardless of where that might possible be. Something else that he made me think is that if we choose to forget about history then it would surely repeat itself. I personally will take his advice by not being scared to speak up about certain issues within the university and even a larger community, I also learned…

Walking into the locker room about to get ready to go to our last football game of the season. I could smell the sweaty equipment from the kids who never take their pads home. The Hempfield Spartans 7th grade team would be ending their season 0-7 if we didn’t win today. As I was changing into my pads my friend mike walked in the room. I said “you ready for tonight”. “Heck yeah” replied Mike.…

If given the opportunity to correct a mistake from my past, appreciating my curves in my childhood is the first slip up that comes to my mind. Rejecting my wide hips and thick thighs,I longed to have a slender figure not unlike my friends. Ultimately, I purchased one of Shaun T’s workout systems called “Insanity” in the seventh grade. Despite the obvious signs of exhaustion that my body exhibited, I kept pushing myself to endure three workouts a day. I set intangible goals for myself such as losing ten pounds a week. After three and a half months of consistently following Shaun T’s program, I was found heavily wheezing in my sleep during my mother’s nightly rounds to check on my siblings and I. Soon after, I began to feel claustrophobic, as…

July 14th, 1931. I lie in my deathbed at 10:49 pm, thinking. It seems like just yesterday I was only five, with my whole life ahead of me. I remember my mother told me stories while I sat on her lap. She would make hot chocolate and I would listen to her talk. My favorite story always started the same way. On September 2nd, 1903, the day I was born. My mom went into labor a month earlier than expected, so it was a good thing that they already bought baby supplies. The only problem was my parents thought I was going to be a girl. My mother would laugh every time she spoke of this, but she always assured me afterwards that they both love me all the same, no matter who I turned out to be. They named me Lawrence Exeter, after my father. This was the last and only memory I have of my mom before she left us.…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…

I don’t remember much about how my family died, I was just a three year old boy; Keenan Waren. All I can remember is it was Thanksgiving day with my whole family. I know it was this day because the smell of the turkey was burnt into my memory, and it’s also what the people at the orphanage told me as I was growing up. Something else I can recall is seeing a tall, bulky shadow holding a green flame in his hand after the lights shut off. Everyone was screaming, but I am still unsure of what was happening to them. My mom carried me out into the rainy night in front of the house in my carseat, and I was crying for the teddy bear my aunt gave me for my first birthday. I kept crying, so my mom covered me with blanket and ran back inside to grab it…
