Every Thanksgiving since about 2012, my older sister and I would wake up really early just to kind of clean up the house, arrange some things around, oh and also take the elements that we will be using for the meal out of the refrigerator. We start off by taking out the chicken breasts, smoked sausage, shrimp, crab legs, crawfish and marinate each of the items into different bowls, making sure to avoid cross contamination. After doing so, we wrap the bowls with Ziploc plastic wrap and place them back into the refrigerator. Removing the broccoli and mint leaves from their packages, we cut them both into tiny pieces and rinse them in cold water, placing them into a plastic container and let them sit for a while. I usually place three bottles of …show more content…
apple cider into the deep freezer so they become cold by the time the meal is prepared.
Giving the components each about thirty to forty-five minutes to soak in the seasonings my sister and I find something to pass by time. Most of the time we play music and try to clean the house as much as possible. We often tell jokes, laugh, and hold real conversations about what one another has experienced. I enjoy spending time with my sister, there’s never a dull moment when we’re together. That’s beside the point. We usually shop online and try to see what’s in stores for black Friday and do markings on what we should get. So by this time it’s been thirty to forty-five minutes that have gone by, we immediately head to the kitchen to start preparing the meal. Taking out a large pan and spreading oil all over it, then placing the pan onto the stove top, while waiting to the oil starts to sizzle. We bring out the containers from the fridge and unwrap the plastic covering them and discard those into the trash can. Grabbing a spatula and tossing one of chicken breasts into the pan to make sure the oil is ready we then grab a large pot and fill the pot with water, dripping a dash of oil into the pot then placing it onto the stove top as well. We cook the chicken all at once till it turns to a golden brownish color, that’s how you know it’s done. After the chicken is done we place the shrimps in the pan next and watch them shrink in size. Looking at the pot of water we then place the pasta bow tie into the water and cover the pot up, checking the pasta about every ten minutes to see its current state.
While the shrimp is in the pan we toss the smoked sausage in as well and let those two mix in with each other.
When they get to a certain stage we add in the broccoli and mix them all into one. You can smell the goodness within the kitchen, it smells like heaven honestly. All types of seasonings floating around being cooked in many delicious ways it’s like one will know when to awaken. Once the shrimp, sausage, and broccoli has been made we remove them from the pan.
Adding a tad bit more oil to the pan just enough for us to cook the crawfish with.
Checking on the pasta, and watching the crawfish cook we add in the mint leave to the pan and stir them together reducing the temperature on the stove from a high to a medium low so the leaves wouldn’t over cook. Placing the pasta into a container eliminating the pasta water from the actual pasta we start to combine each of the items into one huge pot. Now to my favorite part, adding the chicken Alfredo sauce to the party and mix every ingredient together.
Setting the table and placing the sharing’s onto every seat making sure everyone has enough to eat. I take the apple ciders from the freezer and share among everyone. Saying a prayer and doing a toast is the best part of it all. Hoping everyone’s thanksgiving was as special as mine.
Happy
Thanksgiving.
