Personal Narrative-Skating
I have been skating since I was four, barely clinging on to the walls back then. My dad used to take my sister Daisy and me to a skating rink almost every weekend in the winter. We taught ourselves how to skate fast, stop, and whatever else. However, it wasn’t until the end of seventh grade that we finally decided to take lessons. One March morning my dad drove us to an unknown rink. Pulling our skating bags onto the bleachers to tie them, we looked around at the busy rink. Finally it was time to go on. I hesitantly skated on to the ice, my sister a few strokes behind me. A girl in front of me wobbled towards her coach, her head barely as high as my knee. Pausing to look around the rink, I noticed an ocean of children much shorter than I, either jumping or spinning expertly. I looked over at Daisy, noticing that she and I stuck out, being the same height as the coaches. Daisy looked both confused and hopeless, also noticing the age gap and the skills of many of the younger kids. My sister and I were clearly …show more content…
Although they only lasted a short period of time, skating with little kids was still uncomfortable for me. I am so grateful for my sister that helped me persevere and stick with the sport that I enjoy so much. If I didn’t take those group lessons, I wouldn’t have learned so much and improved my skating to help me get to the level I am at now. I probably wouldn’t even be skating anymore. Though taking those lessons was hard for me, I learned a lot more than how to skate. I learned that it is important to try things out of your comfort zone, you may discover something you really enjoy. I learned that sticking with things and not giving up is really important in order to succeed. Overall, I am really glad that I decided to try something new and out of my comfort zone and stick with it, since skating is something I do so much today and I enjoy doing so

The Fury, the fastest, longest, and tallest rollercoaster on the East Coast. With a top speed of 95 mph and a height of 325 feet makes it the biggest rollercoaster I had ever gotten on, beating the Intimidator 305 by 25 feet. I remember seeing on television and wanting to ride it really badly. It just looked so amazing and since I love rollercoasters and love riding rollercoasters, I knew it was something I had to do. I had ridden lots of rollercoasters before this one such as the Intimidator 305 and the Top Thrill Dragster, which I had enjoyed riding very much, and I figured that the Fury would be just as good. So I asked my parents of we could go to the Carrowinds to ride the Fury. They said yes and we went with my aunt to the Carrowinds.…

Trepidation filled my head. Despite the negative 10 degree weather, sweat pooled in my gloves and rolled down my face. Thoughts raced through my mind; a wrong execution could mean death. 11 years of ski lessons had cultivated to this one moment. My life was on the line, yet a wave of excitement shook me. I took a look down at the jump that had come to dominate Joe’s backyard, replacing his childhood swing set. The jump was sizable, but not gargantuan. From previous hits I noticed its “poppy” lip - skier talk for a jump that sends you up rather than out - which is ideal for the trick I was about to attempt: a backflip.…

The most memorable thing that happened to me was when I first discovered what I’m really good at. I came across inspiring Youtube videos of old classic Roller Derby and recent ones that were published only a year ago, I knew from the moment I laid eyes on those quads that I had to try it. In less than two weeks I was a complete natural at skating, I was all about skates. I practiced all the derby stances, exercises, techniques you name it I am absolutely in love with this sport. but as much as I fantasized about doing it I never thought that I’d actually get the chance to be part of their world and have training by the Derby Dames Juniors Freshmeat Association crew, which are ranked the top thirty-one in the united states!…

I walked on a thin layer of ice in high school; every time someone judged me, I could hear the ice slowly cracking under my feet. My life was in a fragile and brittle state during my junior year. I didn’t have the support of my parents, nor of my closest friends at this stage of my life. My own parents, teachers, and classmates had lost faith in me; to them it seemed as if I had ruined my life and that I would no longer succeed. On the contrary, I was determined to be successful because now I had someone special looking up at me as their role model.…

Playing Ice Hockey was a burning passion of mine. It all started in the cold and dense locker room. Practice had just finished up and we were inside the locker room getting undressed. I was a forward on the team and was only ten years old. The team goalie was sick and was not going to be able to make our game the next day. Coach asked “Is anyone willing to play goalie for our game?” and I, the young ten year old boy I was; was the first person to quickly respond saying “I will!” Playing goalie was destined for me, I was a star and very talented.…

Skiing was not my forte or my favorite activity to do. My emotions were enraged at the way I tumbled down the slope. My body ached by falling and tumbling through the freezing cold snow and ice. Home sounded so marvelous right now, anywhere but here, my confidence had hit rock bottom. My face red and frozen from sobbing. I concluded that there was some other way down, nevertheless there wasn’t.…

I began playing lacrosse in middle school. Since I was new to the sport I was determined to become a better athlete for the upcoming high school season. Spring season of ninth grade, I made junior variety lacrosse. We had an amazing season and made memories that will last forever. Unfortunately, during the season, I injured my ankle and was out for most of the season. Even though I was injured, I was still a team player and always supported my team in every way possible. When my injury healed, junior varsity's season was over, but varsity had made the play-offs. I was one of several girls who was pulled up for the play-offs that season. Every girl knew what to expect. We knew our place and were excited and proud of the older girls for doing so well. This opportunity for all the younger girls improved our skills tremendously and we got a feel for how a varsity game is played.…

“Are people going to make fun of me?” “Am I going to fall?” Seated aside on the escalator with my instructor I pondered to myself “Is it too late to reconsider?” Midway through the ride to the top of the hill he told me bluntly as difficult as snowboarding seems in the beginning I would eventually get the hang of it. I didn’t bother listening to him due to my horrible thoughts drowning and repelling every sound anything made. Before I knew it I stood on the top of the hill and he told me to go down first. As embarrassing to say I never went down with a clean slide. I tripped and fell off balance as many times a clumsy 9 year old can. The kids in my group already started talking about me behind my back, ridiculing me with their cruel comments. I saw a private place where I thought no one would find me and laid down with my arms over my knees and cried my heart…
