Personal Narrative: Snowboarding Day
One Saturday morning, I crawled out of bed and went downstairs to have breakfast. I looked out the window and saw a fresh blanket of snow which meant that it was a perfect day for snowboarding! About an hour later my brother, Jacob also came down and ate his breakfast.

"Hey Jacob, want to go snowboarding today?" I asked.

"Sure," he replied.

We got on our gear one piece at a time. Snowpants, boots, coat, scarf, and gloves.

"We're going to the park," I announced to my parents as we walked out the door.

As we walked to the park all I could see was a winter wonderland. There was so much snow it was crazy! The roofs of the houses were white, and I could barely even see the road.

"Today is a great day to go snowboarding," I mentioned. Once we got to the park we walked past the sand box, swings, and then the slide and kept on going up toward the hill.

"It's a bit slippery", I noted, "do you still want to stay?"

"Yeah, we can stay," he answered. We got to

Jacob got up and started to run towards our house.

"Hurry!!" I pleaded. He then began running as fast as he could.

I waited out in the cold and snow for what seemed like forever. I eventually saw our car pull up to the park. I saw my dad and my brother get out of the car and hurry towards me. When they got to me, my dad picked me up and carried me to the car. We got in and he drove me home. Then he helped me get out of the car. The pain was so bad I had to hop to the door. Once inside our house, I hopped over to the couch, and laid down.

"Are you okay?" my mom asked.

"I don't think so" I cried.

We then put a pillow under my foot to elevate and cushion it for pain. My mom got an icepack from the freezer to try to bring down the swelling. After about thirty minutes the pain died down. We then agreed it would probably be best to go to the doctor. I got up, hopped to the car, and we headed for the

The day I took off on my 4 wheeler, and left my Mom and Dad in the dust. It started out awesome and fun, then turned out to be very scary. I felt the stock of my bow while I was sitting in the blind. Frost had already began to form where I rubbed it off seconds ago. I looked through the small window at the everlasting snow. “Wait, was that a deer moving along those trees?” I asked myself. It looked more like a kangaroo making its way through the snow. I could barely stand up in the cold. I pulled back, ready to take the shot.…

This spring I spent two-weeks in New York visiting my daughter and her family. I spend a lot of time in the city, and I love it, not only because my daughter has chosen to create and raise a family in Brooklyn, but also because of its walkability. I’m not much of a shopper, but I do like to watch other shoppers, particularly those who dress as if they’d like to be watched.…

Trepidation filled my head. Despite the negative 10 degree weather, sweat pooled in my gloves and rolled down my face. Thoughts raced through my mind; a wrong execution could mean death. 11 years of ski lessons had cultivated to this one moment. My life was on the line, yet a wave of excitement shook me. I took a look down at the jump that had come to dominate Joe’s backyard, replacing his childhood swing set. The jump was sizable, but not gargantuan. From previous hits I noticed its “poppy” lip - skier talk for a jump that sends you up rather than out - which is ideal for the trick I was about to attempt: a backflip.…

As I crossed the road with my dog Henry, I could feel the frigid winter breeze on my face. Then I felt a snowflake land on my nose like a plane landing after a long flight. I didn’t like this cold weather at all but I had heard many children around me cheering and laughing. I heard things like “woohoo it is snowing” and things like “oww don't throw snowballs at my face”. That last one made me chuckle a little bit when I had heard it. Then I heard someone yell my name, which is Brian by the way. So I turned around and felt a big snowball hit my back.…

About 2,500 miles east lies the cold and rainy city of Canton, Ohio. The majority of my childhood was spent inside the house as Ohio was not ideal for outdoor adventure. Although, after turning 6, I was introduced to snow skiing . It became an enjoyable hobby of mine for years. Skiing opened my eyes to the beauty of nature and the serenity it provided. I loved the smell of fresh air and the exhilarating feeling of gliding down the mountain. It is a very peaceful sport and provides a silence away from everyday life. Coincidentally, I learned of ski club in middle school where I could ski with several other students that enjoyed this exercise as well. I joined the club and looked forward to the weekly Sunday trips. It showed the importance…

The most memorable thing that happened to me was when I first discovered what I’m really good at. I came across inspiring Youtube videos of old classic Roller Derby and recent ones that were published only a year ago, I knew from the moment I laid eyes on those quads that I had to try it. In less than two weeks I was a complete natural at skating, I was all about skates. I practiced all the derby stances, exercises, techniques you name it I am absolutely in love with this sport. but as much as I fantasized about doing it I never thought that I’d actually get the chance to be part of their world and have training by the Derby Dames Juniors Freshmeat Association crew, which are ranked the top thirty-one in the united states!…

Soon after that, it began to grow dark outside and we reluctantly had to return home. As we headed back, I began to feel drowsy due to pure exhaustion and before I fell asleep I looked up to see my dad smiling at me and my two younger brothers in the rearview mirror, all falling asleep next to each other in the backseat of the car, shoulder to shoulder. Thinking back to those days and that snow trip, it reminded me how close my family and I have remained over the years. Now, I can't exactly fit on one individual sled with my dad but standing there next to him just reminded me how much of a bond we have shared over the years and how much he still loves and protects me. Our surroundings and circumstances may have altered but the memories we share will last forever. For the entire rest of the day my family and I spent it outside in the beautiful snow relishing on the rare occasion. I continuously sipped on my cup of hot chocolate to prevent me from being cold, I smiled to myself just thinking how great a day this was, I got to spend precious time with my family and technically have an extra day of winter…
