Personal Narrative: Soccer At Home
Jessica runs down the field, towards to goal. She can feel the wind rushing past her. She lifts her foot up and swings at the worn out soccer ball. The ball just slips past the goalies gloves and hits the back of the net. That’s what she craved, except that feeling was separated by the feeling of her parents saying that she had four F’s and a D on her report card. “I know this report card didn’t exactly pass with flying colors but this season has me crammed with drills and skill building exercises,” Jessica said with a convincing look in her eye. “Flying colors,” yelled Jessica’s mother. “Flying colors you say. You barely passed period.” “I can make a good career out of soccer.” “You need another job to fall back on. Soccer is not going …show more content…
Jessica did not want to tell her coach she couldn’t play, that would crush him. After school that day she had to go to practice. “I just do not get how your mom could say that even if soccer is your life.” said Jessica’s best friend Kaslyn. “I know right. Soccer is everything to me. I can’t just not play soccer.” “I guess you will just have to get your grades up.” “I guess.” Jessica walked off of the field towards her mom’s car and left having a sick feeling in her stomach from the thought of not being able to play. Over the course of the next few months, Jessica has been able to bring her average up from a F to a D. She was getting there but she had to be at a B or better in 3 months. Keeping soccer was her top priority, so she obviously worked hard to keep her grades good. Every test Jessica would do better and better. It’s funny because right as Jessica got her average up to a C and her big test is coming up in geometry. Jessica would spend hours and hours studying for this test. Jessica would usually get to practice at least 30 minutes early to hang out with her favorite people but now she barely got there on

The first question asked Jessica Long was “ What is your opinion on Jeter’s quote”? She replied “ I agree with his quote because I believe if you look at Major League Baseball or other professional sports you will see that the people that are dedicated and work the hardest weren’t always the most talented when they were younger, they had to work at it to get better” ( Jessica Long). Jessica has a very valid point here. Most kids aren’t the most talented when they first start, they have to work to become a better athlete. Even in professional sports the players have to train and practice everyday to become better. They don’t get accepted onto the team and then don’t practice because it won't better them or better the team. Then she asked “What advice would you give younger athletes?” She responded “ My biggest advice would be to try as much as you can. I think a lot of kids right now are trying to specialize to soon which not only does it not help develop their skill set but also restricts them on what they are able to experience later on. I think if you focus totally on softball and your never tried anything else you never really know if soccer was really your thing”(Jessica Long). Jessica is stating that it is good to only want to do one sport and concentrate on it but it is also good to have an open mind. When you do a sport you can only want to do that sport but don’t overwork…

People ask me why I care so much. They tell me it’s just a game, get over it. But soccer has never been just a game to me. Soccer has been consuming my time, thoughts, and body since my parents signed me up for small-time recreational soccer twelve years ago that developed into extremely competitive travel soccer. They, perhaps unknowingly, threw me headlong into a life of traveling countless miles, long nights of practice, and an unforgettable amount of tears, sweat, and bloodshed. All which persisted over the course of my extensive soccer career.…

Starting soccer when I was only five years old was challenging because of my October birthday I had to play with all the six year olds. My parents had put me in soccer because I was a young boy filled with too much energy. After playing soccer for about a year I decided I wanted to do more, I loved the sport. I started playing club soccer when I was 7 years old, playing for under the wing of Charley Amblo. This was a training team only, it was not till I was nine that I was started playing for a travel team. This was the beginning of where I learned my leadership, time management, and teamwork dynamics.…
