Fourteen years after Johnny’s accident, he was playing on a swing set when he suffered a seizure. He fell of the swing, hitting his head. The additional damaged caused him to have a massive stroke. Two days later, he died as a result of the injuries. His funeral was attended by Dixie, the Rampart doctors, the old Station 51 Crew, their family members, many of the friends he had made in NAMI groups, as well as some old friends and victims who had remembered him from previous years.…

Clara Barton, the "angel of the battlefield" inspires me. A time when few girls worked, she became a teacher and soon, with the advent of the Civil War, became involved in humanitarian work. With the Ladies Aid Society, she collected bandages, food and clothing to soldiers. Later, she fought for support to become a nurse during the Civil War. She was a good nurse. Moved by the Swiss Red Cross, at age 60, in Washington D.C., she founded the American Red Cross. Because of Clara Barton, I became more involved with the Red Cross; fundraising, starting a club, becoming an Everyday Hero and Ambassador. Her life taught me the value of giving and leadership. Her life stirs me to go beyond the Red Cross. One day, I hope to create an organization that…
During the winter half of the town lost power. People ere cold and could not cook because of having no electricity. The Red Cross came and set up cots and had warm food at the fire station so people could eat, sleep, and be warm. In another instance, my son lost a large amount of blood during a routine procedure that should have turned out perfectly normal. After spending three days in the hospital, my five week old son had to have a blood transfusion in order to keep his organs and body working properly. There was an American Red Cross blood bank right there in the hospital. They ordered the blood and within one hour, the blood was delivered. The moral of this story I, I am extremely thankful for Clara Barton and her willingness to start the American Red Cross. Without their services, I would not have my beautiful son…
Creative: the organization welcomes new visions and ideas; The American Red Cross are always interested in serving others the best way they know how, if there is a better way by all means share it. One should always want to better themselves and others.…
Have you ever been in the position of leaving your entire family behind? Well, I have an opportunity to make that choice this coming summer. I have a choice between staying here in the United States and playing baseball for an American Legion Team, The Outlaws, or leaving the US and playing for an Ambassador Baseball Team in the Dominican Republic. This decision is tough considering no one in my family can come along. Also in the sixteen years of my life, I have never been away from my family for an extended amount of time. Mainly, I feel there are three big factors in my decision. These factors are meeting new people with a different background, learning a new language and adapting to a new culture.…
The American Red Cross falls into three categories when dealing with the different kinds of service: nation’s response to war, responding to natural disasters, and other human suffering. Whenever any of these occur, the American Red Cross is always there to lend a hand and do whatever is needed to improve the situation. The people that work with this organization want to help those who are suffering, and their help is…
For over 100 years The American Red Cross (ARC) has been essential when disaster strikes. As a prominent not for profit organization, the Red Cross relies on donations from the public to sustain its ability to provide assistance in times of disasters. Providing medical support as well as food, clothes and shelter to victims of catastrophes. Non-governmental organization (NGO) such as the Red Cross are independent from states and international governmental organizations.…
It was a chilly day on March 6, 2007. Me and my family were on 495 going to the Holy Cross Hospital with a slight delay of traffic. For some reason, I kept fiddling with my fingers, I was really nervous to see him. We took the exit 31A and we all shifted to the left since it was a sharp turn to the right. My big sister, Maisie, was on my shoulder and we shifted her head fell on my lap. She woke up and asked where we were. “We are almost there Maisie” my Dad said. We stopped at the traffic light and I fiddled with my fingers some more. “Stop fiddling with your fingers!” Maisie whispered to me. In my head, I say “I can’t, he is the first boy of the family, the first! Besides me!” I stopped fiddling and looked at the huge structure in front of me, The Holy Cross Hospital.…
Weather destruction hits hard some places more then others around the world. In Alpena where I live we rarely have any kind of major weather damage. On June 14, a group of 44 members from Grace Lutheran Church, as well as other churches in Alpena, drove 20 hours to Mayflower, Arkansas where a level 5 tornado had hit. I was one of these, along with my mom and one of my best friends Maddy. For six months we had prepared and fundraised. I did not want to go on this trip, but what I was going to see was much more than what I had imagined--i came back more grateful for the life I have and more aware of the problems that other people deal with.…
As we age, we forget (parallelism). We forget the joys of being a child. We forget (repetition) how to play, how to laugh (parallelism). We tend to become so fixed on growing up that we forget many of things that we found wondrous as children as they have faded away like the night (simile) as the sun of time rises and illuminates the harsh reality of life. I have found however, one thing from my childhood seems to stick with me even as I have grown up and that is bandaids. This is not because they are something that can easily acquired but instead because of what they represent.…
As the single child in a family with working parents, I spent the most time of my childhood living and hanging around with my dog. This experience might be one of the reasons that I am very compassionate to animals and sensitive to people’s needs. My voluntary work is in a welfare house called Alenah's home. I love working there because I like seeing the smile face of the children there – even some autism babies don’t smile facially, I believe they can feel the love when being caressed softly.…

By 1877 I was better and moved to Dansville. I wrote to my friend who worked for the International Red Cross and explained my four-year illness. Then I met with government officials and asked them to see the benefit of the American Red Cross. Next I gave small talks about it and made brochures and also met with president Hayes. When Garfield became president I talked with him about it in 1880, he liked the idea of it. Then president Garfield showed it to James G. Blaine and he also liked the idea of it. Now on May 12, 1881 I began to ask people if they were interested in it. On May 21,1881 I had 22 workers who worked with me in the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross was helpful, we went and helped out where there was disasters. I ended up retiring at the age of 84 and a male was the new president . I died on April 12, 1912 in Glen Echo, Maryland. When I died my last words were "let me go! let me go! " . When I was in my 80's I made a book called " A Story of the American Red Cross" and in 1907 I made a book called " The Story of My Childhood" . To the American Red Cross I was known as a " visionary leader" . (Bow) , (sit…
Growing up, I noticed a lot of discussion about financial problems between my parents. It’s not that we were becoming poor, it was because of our growing family needing more supplies. My mother just gave birth to my little brother when I started noticing the financial issues my family were facing. As a little girl, I do not know how our finances worked all I knew was many bills were due and I knew it because when I was a little girl I liked to practice reading and those bill statements were the papers that attracted my interest due to its colorful paper.…
