Personal Narrative: The Carnegie Library

Libraries are more than a quiet place to read a good book. The Carnegie Library has been an influential place throughout the conscious years of my life. Every since I could remember, the Library has been a place where I would be allowed to further my love of reading and expand upon the knowledge I already had a basis for. Now that I have come across a topic which I would like to study for life, the Library has been a resource for my further learning in Psychology. From when I was younger, I remember the books being larger than I was then, but I eventually grew into them as they allowed me to grow into my current state of mind. When I was younger, both mind and body, the Library was a place so big, yet comfortable to get lost in, since getting lost ment a good book and a friendly smile from the librarians. As I proceeded to age the Library was no longer a massive palace, but a local Library with great resources. As I aged, the library aged (or changed in this case) along with me and I began feeling ambivilous. I was not sure if I was happy to see the library adapt to the growth in technology, or sad to see the characteristics of the Library I had known since childhood
It has widened its section of DVDs and created a space where teens can feel at home. For a ‘library of the future’ I see a touchscreen computer where friends of the library can check out books whenever they are in a rush. I have seen this machine at other libraries and saw it helped keep lines short for checking out. A machine would be kept at the end of the desk for individuals who are running late or to lower the wait time on lines.
This machine would allow children to have a kinetic experience with checking out books, which will help them grasps the aspects of responsibility and independence faster than the auditory and visual ways of learning.
Overall, the Carnegie Library has been a solid support system since my childhood. I am glad I had this resource for it helped me understand the passion I hold and the profession that suits me best. I desire to see the Carnegie Library become a ‘library of the future’ to help other children grow, learn, and discover their passions. I hope to continue to grow alongside the library as I have done for as long as I can
