Personal Narrative: The First Day Of High School
As I stepped through the doors of high school on the first day of school, I had little to no care about two things. I didn’t care about how weak my muscles were and I certainly didn’t care enough to do my homework right when I got home. It is December now and I care a whole lot more than I originally did. I took longer in the morning or I’d spend 15 minutes before I go to bed to pick to pick out my outfits, I’d cram before exams or quizzes, I’d pay attention more in class and procrastinate less after school for homework. Sometimes, I’d compare the amount of time I had then and the amount of time I have now, and what I concluded was that in the beginning of school, my time was the amount of a water bottle, and now it seemed like at least a pond. The problem with my goals, I now realize, is that they had been too hard to accomplish for me when I first set them. I did not start slow, I wrote down my goals as if they were easy to accomplish, and back then, they seemed that way. I have learned that …show more content…
This was easier than my personal goal, but it was also a bit hard, given my attention span that was as short as a squirrel’s. I was successful and unsuccessful in this, since only sometimes I would try to finish my work and other times my stress would want to relieve itself by napping. With the attention problem, sometimes I had managed to have my eyes and ears on the teacher, and other times my boredom would be able to seduce me into daydreaming about slightly irrelevant things. I also remembered something my art teacher had said, that doodling would help concentration and I guess it’s because when I doodle, my eyes don’t wander to the clock every five milliseconds and it keeps my ears focused on the sound of the teacher’s voice. What I have learned from the first draft of this goal is that only when I am tired or bored, I would potentially procrastinate or not pay

    It was my first day of practice for high school swimming. There I was- a scrawny freshman, idolizing these upperclassmen who towered above me. Being the only freshman in my class, my coach had me train alongside these giants. I remember the countless morning practices, which always involved grueling endurance sets, where my teammates lapped me constantly while I struggled to make the intervals; feeling disappointed in myself, but determined to continue working hard in order to catch up to my teammates.
