Personal Narrative: The First Time
The First Time I went to a College Football Game Vroom! Vroom! It was a cold and cloudy Saturday afternoon and me, my parents and my parents friends Alex and Vince were driving to a 7:00 Missouri Tiger football game. They were going to play the Texas A&M Aggies at home. Whoever wins is going to go to one of the biggest games of the year which is the SEC championship. We had just entered Missouri’s campus and it was packed with a bunch of Missouri fans. As we drove around for a little bit I could see all of the stadiums including baseball, basketball and then of course football. Driving into the parking we could all see the letters at the top of the stadium spell out M-I-Z-Z-O-U (this is a shorter way to say Missouri). It was about 5:40 so we decided to tailgate and play catch with a football for a little bit. Vince got the ball out of the trunk and threw a pass to me. He then said to go long and I went about 40 yards deep before getting the ball thrown right at my chest. I was happy but I still thought it was to easy so I told Vince to try and …show more content…
Excited and full of energy the Mizzou tigers started off the game with a TD (scoring 7 points) and then getting a stop on defense to make A&M punt (to also literally punt to the other team to give them the ball). There was about 5 minutes left in the first quarter and Mizzou got a couple of first downs but then got sacked (quarterback gets tackled behind the line of scrimmage) for a loss of 9. It was 2nd and 19 yards to go in order for a first down and we gained about 6 yards on a run play to Marcus Murphy. Now it was 3rd and 13 yards to go and we threw an incomplete pass which then gave us the thumbs up to just punt the ball away. A&M got with 2 minutes left to go in the first quarter. They got a first down by running all three times gaining about 12 yards ending the first

That doesn’t go as plan and he gets sacked in the backfield. GC fans are terrified because we just lost a few yards, but it isn’t over just yet. The team huddles up and the quarterback calls another play. Its looks like we’re going to run the same play that gave us a gain of fifteen. The center hikes the ball and just like before, he gives it to the running back. Everyone in the stands trying to look past all the players on the field to see where the ball is going. Suddenly, we see a black jersey come out of a pile of other jersey. As fast as lighting Greene County is running down the field aiming for a touchdown. The announcer once again “he’s at the thirty, the twenty, the ten, touchdown!” That seals the deal with only a minute left until halftime. Washington Wilkes fans sits with disgust all over their faces. Our rivalry that thought were going to blow us out, now has to go into half-time with a tied game. The fans happy as ever, can now go into the third quarter with all hopes that we can win the game. The band now playing the Greene County Tigers theme song, “Eye of the Tiger”, in good…

It’s fourth and nineteen, Tampa Bay’s special teams unit comes on, trying to pin Carolina deep in their own territory. “Hike!” It’s a fake! Tampa Bay’s punter drops back. He finds a double covered, third string running back streaking down the field. He throws the ball as hard as he can. The ball travels a total of three yards before an oncoming Julius Peppers snags it out of the air. “Interception! He’s at the thirty. The twenty. The ten. He could go all the way! Touchdown!” This was the play that capped off my brothers 56-0 beat-down of me in our Blackfoot cousins Madden tournament. Taking a moment to comprehend what had just happened, I stared at the screen in disbelief. The entire ensuing minute was madness. “You cheated!”, “That would…

Year after year, faithful collegiate football fans gather around the tailgate of their cars in parking lots around the nation and cook mediocre meals that taste delicious at the time because they share it with their fellow fans and season ticket holders. They all live different lives, but on Saturday, every weekend, they are the same, crazed fans that keep coming back to see their favorite team or Alma matter finish the day with a victory and so they can add one more to the win column of their record. Hopefully, they do not have to experience a loss and this year’s team goes undefeated, with a shot to play in the national championship and prove to the country, in one game, that they are the best college football team in America.…

The stadium is well known for its hosting duties of the SEC baseball tournament, showcasing the top twelve teams in the Southeastern Conference. However, most Friday nights, the stadium is occupied by Hoover football fans and players. Once the band arrives, we line up and march into the stadium to our cadence. Marching begins right outside of the buses, continues into the stadium, and ends once we have reached the section of the stadium, which has been designated for the band, prior to the fans arrival. The band plays a few stand chants while the Buccanettes dance along. Once the clock strikes 10 minutes until the game, the band marches behind the visiting stands to line up for pregame. Pregame includes the entire band marching onto the field to a cadence, turning towards the audience, standing at attention, then playing the national anthem and alma matter. After these two songs are played the band will march into a new formation on the field that will allow the players to run through while the band plays the fight song. Buccanettes stand in front of the band doing our stand dance to this tune, the cheerleaders held a huge sign for the players to run through and the colorguard would run across the field with large Buccaneer flags. The audience’s reaction made the all the previous hours of getting ready worthwhile. The student section was filled with shakers, lettermen, and hundreds of students. The rest of the stadium was filled with fans from the community. After pregame, the band would march back to the stands to begin more stand chants. The band played tunes such as ESPN, sunshine, the fight song, word up, and many others. At the beginning of the second quarter we would again march out of the stadium where stretching would take place to warm up for the halftime show. The first thing…

One cool, September afternoon, I stood in a hotel parking lot with 200 of my closest friends, in an unfamiliar state. Charter buses sat in the background with window paint announcing our arrival in a loud, “JAGUAR PRIDE!” The sun rose on the horizon, scattering blues and pinks across our faces. We were divided into two groups, the larger stood not twenty feet away doing breathing exercises and stretches, the smaller divided into its own groups, both of which battling the wind and the sun; the elements acting against us. We warmed up and we fought the elements, but there was always someone reminding us, “Savor this moment, this is what we’re here for.” Before we knew it, we were standing at the gates of Welcome Stadium, waiting, hearts pumping, minds reeling, some of us numb, for our chance to show Dayton what the Jaguar Pride was made of. We took the field, and everything that could have gone wrong, did. Our sound system crashed, we couldn’t hear the pit playing the opening, and we couldn’t see the drum majors giving us the count off, because we were stuffed into formation…

Game Day had arrived for the two rival basketball teams; the Eagles and the Tigers. The loud and passionate fans had been waiting in line for hours out in the freezing cold weather. As the warm ups started the players were getting nervous. Both teams wanted the state championship very bad and they were just hours away from winning it. Months and months of strenuous conditioning and closely won ball games had all come down to this one game. The referee threw the perfectly round orange rubber ball in the air for the tip off and the game began. Both teams came out very aggressively. The encouraging cheers from the pumped up fans were really driving both teams to give it their all. The entertaining game was neck and neck the entire way through. Nobody could tell which team had the edge. It all came down to the final seconds of the game. The scoreboard showed that the Eagles were down 73 to 74. The star player took the ball inside against the biggest player on the Tigers. He was fouled hard and fell down onto the hardwood floor. The coaches and fans were infuriated that it was not called a technical foul. The star player was at the black painted free throw line with the potential to win the game. He shot the ball and made the first free throw just like he had done many times before. The time came for the second free throw and there was a huge silence in the nervous crowd. He shot the ball and it was in the air for what seemed like a lifetime. It rattled around the orange rim and then went through the white roped net. The Eagles had won the state…

GAMETIME! This is what its all about right here. Down by 4 with two timeouts left and 2:15 seconds on the game clock. Being the starting quarterback, it’s all on me to carry this team to a win; by the way if we win we go on to play in the state championship game! My coach, Adam Hastings, pulls me to the side and looks me in my eyes and says, “It’s your time, I’ve coached you as far as I can, and this is your team now, you are the leader so take control and lead this team to a victory, but no matter what the outcome is I’m proud of you and how far you have came in life.” That was our last win together and I will never forget what he told me. Coach Hastings had a positive effect on my life because he taught me how to be a leader, give back to the community, and never give up on what I want to do.…
