Personal Narrative: The Legend Of Kobe Bryant
The Legend

When people think about “Stars”(celebrities) they only see what they do on screen, on stage, or on a playing field, but what they don’t see is what happens behind closed doors. Professional athletes, coaches, singers, and actors, and actress have great things to offer other than their job to entertain us. Many people don’t realize this because they choose to only look at what they want to see and not what they should see. These celebrities that we look at and idolize have had some of the greatest impacts throughout our country.

“Never give up on your dreams.” That was one of the first things Kobe Bryant said to me. Many people look at Kobe and say he’s a perfectionist. Yeah, maybe a little bit, but if he weren’t would he have ended up where he is today. The first time I met Kobe Bryant was January 19, 2008 in Los Angles California at the Staples Center. My cousin Shawn Marion was on the opposing team the Phoenix Suns, so it was easy for me to go onto the court and meet Kobe. I remember the energy in the arena was unbelievable. I can truly and honestly say, after spending my time with these less fortunate families, it’s made me look at life in a very different way. You might feel like your life is not worth living because you can’t go somewhere you want to go or you cant buy something you want. But you have to really think is this worth complaining about. While there are children starving and freezing in the cold, your complaining about something you don’t have. One of my favorite quotes is “You never really understand the value of a moment until it becomes a memory” which means don’t take anything for granted because once its gone all you have left are memories. So think about this what if you didn’t have a place to stay, food to eat, or clothes to put on your body… would you be acting the same way you are

Kobe Bryant and Lebron James are separated by six years. They play on different teams with different teammates and play different positions. NBA fans all around the world always ask the same question, who is the better overall player Kobe or Lebron as of today? Speaking from my expertise and experience about the game hands down Lebron James is the better overall player as of today because he is in his prime right now. He is getting better every year. The best way to realize why Lebron is an overall better player than Kobe is to compare their stats in all aspects of the game. The only things that Kobe has an edge on Lebron are his five NBA Championship rings and his two finals MVP 's. Rings do not define who…

Growing up with a dad who was All-State for Basketball, and a Grandfather who played Division I basketball; I was always expected to be good at ball. I was always decent but never quite lived to expectations. When I turned 12 years old, I was diagnosed with Type 3 scoliosis, which limited not only my quickness but my ability to twist and run normally. The basketball dynasty was coming to an end as I had lost a lot of athleticism. I was always on the middle team, not very good, not very bad, but I always tried new moves; which made me hard to guard. I finally quit all sports because my back couldn’t handle the stress, and I wasn’t prepared to go into surgery. One day as I was watching…

It all began with a simple phone call one night after dinner. “Joe,” my father hollered up the stairs, “it’s for you. I was tired and had looked forward to a nice and quiet evening at home, not another stupid adventure with Jackie.…

He rises up with his lanky frame, catches the brownish-orange sphere, then slams it through the basket with enough ferocity to bring down a small house. I felt as if he’d done it just to spite me as I sat on my couch, chips in hand. I couldn’t believe Kevin Durant had worn down the best player in the world, Lebron James, on the NBA’s biggest stage. Then I heard six dreadful words in my ear: “Who’s in your top five again?” This was a time my logical, objective outlook was really put to the test. I was forced to put aside my personal grievances with KD and, after seeing his dominant performance in the finals, put him in my top five players in the NBA.…

A memory from my athletics that will stick with me forever was the last time I was able to lace up and play basketball on our home court. We played a long time rival, Aquin. The game was down to the wire and I was able to tie the game with 24 seconds left. Then we got the ball back and Ellie was fouled with about a second left, which if anyone on our team were to be put on the line, I would choose her. She went up and swooshed the first shot! Then, since Aquin wouldn't be able to get the rebound, make it down the court, and shoot with the time left, coach told her to miss the second shot. Ellie then winded up and chucked the ball right off the backboard so they ended up getting the ball out of bounds anyway. We blocked the throw in, and I ran…

All basketball players remember the 2012-2013 NBA Finals. In the sixth game, San Antonio had a three-two series lead and were up three points late in the fourth. The Heat’s star, Lebron James, attempted to tie the game leaving twelve seconds on the board. He missed the shot and it seemed all hope had been lost. Then, in a matter of seconds, Cosh Bosh came down with the board and passed the ball to Ray Allen for the game tying three. Miami won the game in overtime and then won game seven, crowning them the 2012-2013 NBA Champions. You may question the significance of this story and wonder what kind of point I’m trying to make. So let me tell you this. Miami would have lost that game if two of their role player didn’t step up in the final seconds…

Beloved, loathed, and prestigious; what do all these three words have in common? They all describe one of the most highly-marketed and globalized franchises in sports history, the Los Angeles Lakers. The glamorous team with sixteen championships to its name has had its head flushed down the toilet for the majority of this decade; ironically enough, this team was the one that looked most promising at the decade’s start, as those Lakers were coming off back to back titles. These Lakers have one sole player remaining from that last championship roster and he is riding the deepest depths of the bench, a la Juwan Howard’s role for the Big 3 era Miami Heat.…
