Personal Narrative: The Limits Of Outliers
I looked up Macbookpro life expectancy outliers, because the question always posed for laptops are, “How long will this last? When will I have to purchase another computer?” It all depends on the usage, and other outliers with a few days to seven years. My family has had many laptops (I come from a family of nine children), and most of them lasted about three years. We played video games on them, which I believe was a strong reason why that was their limit. Outliers would be these: my dad has an old Visio laptop; I think it is now 8-9 years old including a refurbish job done at the 5-year mark. He never did any more than work on documents (he is a school teacher), and it continued to plug away. The second oldest brother had owned a Dell XP
laptop, made for high usage, and it lasted 5 years without any work done it. On the other hand, my twin brother owned several laptops (one after the other); he was unfortunate to own three bad laptops, one being a lemon (all three ranged from 1-2 years of life). When the time came for me to purchase a laptop for school, I went cheap, and it barely lasted two years with all the help I could give it. My current laptop is at four years old, and running great! Before I purchased this Macbookpro, I spend two years trying to learn what the norm vs outliers were on them. I learned from those I knew and some research that they tend to last 5-7 years with general use, 1-3 years if you are hard on them, and 7-9 plus years if you take care of them. I have an old friend that still used his Macbookpro when it was made with a plastic case (it was 8 years old then), and ran better than many of my friend’s laptop’s including my own. This boils down to this, the effects of the outliers I learned five years ago helped me guide towards Apple. Growing up with Windows and seeing the pros and cons, I am convinced Apple has better laptops at this point. But it depends on what you desire; Windows uses full power of a desktop or laptop, which is why they burn out in a shorter timeframe. While Apple bottleneck’s their power, to make them last as long as they do.
