It was a hot, steamy morning in early June during the summer of 2015. I was rapidly packing things in my suitcase, more than ready to be in Florida with a few of my friends and my family. I was being allowed to live in Florida for the whole summer at my Uncle’s house. I was extremely excited and happy to get out of Indiana for a few months.
“Lorin! Are you ready to head to the airport?” I heard my mom call up the stairs. I grabbed my suitcases and headed down the stairs, trying not to fall as the suitcases were heavier than anything I’ve ever carried. As I walked out of my front door to my mom’s car, my brother shot me a dirty look. I laughed.
“What was that for?” I said to him as I was putting my suitcases in the back of the car.

The person sitting next to me was around my age. We said hi to each other and actually became pretty close acquaintances. He told me his name was Jaden and that he was going to Florida, too. We didn’t talk the whole way to Florida but we talked for a good amount of time. Other than talking to Jaden, I listened to music and watched movies that I had downloaded the previous night on my phone. Jaden and I exchanged numbers so we could keep in touch. Arriving safely in Florida felt amazing. My mom had told me my aunt and uncle would be waiting to pick me up and drive me to their house.
