Personal Narrative-Time To Start Doing My Make Up
Time to start doing my make up. As I sit down and start getting everything I need out. Getting out my foundation, contouring kit, eyeliner, etc. Pouring a little bit of foundation onto my hand, I use a beauty blender to gently dab it onto my face. Angrily blending it as if my skin held all the answers of why parents just don't understand. When I get done blending I started to contour my face. Using my make up brush to softly paint my face and blend the contour in. When I got done, I started to figure out how I was going to do with to my eyeshadow. Thinking about what would look good with my costume. Yes,this the color. I thought to myself. I dip my brush into the red shimmery eyeshadow and start to blend it onto my eye.

However, my overall favorite, and in my opinion my most successful work is my spill drawing. Throughout the process of creating my piece, I focused on the realistic properties of my piece as well as the overall effect of the piece as a whole. While drawing, I paid attention to all the details. I kept a picture of a real eye close by, which I referenced multiple times and was therefore able to create a more realistic looking piece. In order to create a realistic looking piece, I had to focus on many different techniques while drawing. By using a picture as a reference, I was able to better recreate the values and details, and therefore creating a realistic drawing. For example, I paid close attention to the value and shading around the eye itself. Along with paying attention to value and details, my technique also significantly impacted how I went about drawing. For me, as well as most artists, the use of blank space is just as important as the penciled in part. For instance, I erased part of the iris of the eye in order to create a reflection, which in turn made it look more realistic. Overall, my spill drawing is my favorite and most successful work that I have created over this past semester. By focusing on value, shading, and precise details I was able to create a realistic drawing that I am proud to call my…

What do you see when you look in the mirror? Are you pleased, or do you immediately come up with an endless list of insecurities? As a child one of my favorite memories was laying around the house with my older sister on rainy days. We would leave the windows open so we could hear the rain coming down on the tin roof over our patio, while watching reruns of our favorite tv show “America's Next Top Model”. I always thought that these women were gorgeous and I would catch myself constantly comparing their looks to my own. I wanted to be just like them until I realized the unrealistic expectations that they had to live up to. A sizeable butt and breasts, but not too large; they have got to be proportional. A skinny waist, impeccable hair, blemish free face although even with clear skin you are expected to cake on makeup because no one is actually pretty without mile long eyelashes, the perfect smoky eye, and exemplary contouring. Society has idolized these things as “beautiful” and shamed the girls that do not meet these standards; however, society should be making everyone feel confident in their bodies. Girls need to know that it is okay not to have an “hourglass figure” so they don’t…

Ever since I was a young girl I’ve had an interest in skincare. Of course, I loved playing with makeup, but what I enjoyed most was the understanding of skin. Why does our skin react to certain things? How do we prevent the bad reactions from happening? Why does everyone’s skin react differently compared to each other? These were few of the endless questions I would inquire my mother about everyday. As always my mother never disappoints, and she always was able to answer every single question. Due to my mother’s knowledge of skincare, I was inspired to obtain the same knowledge for something I’m so passionate about.…

I arrived home and start preparing. The warm water of my shower feels silky against my skin, forcing all the stress and unpleasantries of work off my body, washing it all down the drain. Washing myself with the soapy, scratchy loofa, a familiar smell, of Plumeria flowers after a nice Hawaiian rain, fills the room, allowing peace to fully engulf me. I dress in a brown and black paisley shirt with long see through sleeves and a sweetheart neck line, , that flattered my bosom perfectly, along with a silky, stretchy, pair of boot cut black pants and some modest 3 inch…

The first time in my life that I ever experienced true anger and fear was in the sixth grade. A little before Thanksgiving Break, I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a type of skin cancer, in my lower back. I had a mole there that was removed earlier that year, and the test results on it had come back positive. I did not find out until later, but when my mom sat me down across from her to talk, I knew something was wrong. It was then that she told me what was going on, and I broke down in tears. I had never experienced fear such as I did then.…
