Personal Narrative: Two Homeless People
Im sitting in the back office at Dollar General on my lunch break at work and it is far removed from the rest of the store and it is completely silent, on the desk immediately to the right through the door is our CCTV monitor. I like to watch the people as if it were a show because it is never the same. On this particular day two homeless teenagers walked in and having encountered them earlier that day I knew that they smelled like they haven’t showered in months. They were coming in to buy cigarettes but the younger one was not eighteen and the older one was, so He bought them, and they did this twice before entering for the last time that day. After the second time they walked in I decided to follow them on the CCTV. Right when they walked …show more content…

They then disappeared from the cameras and reappeared after sometime with nothing in hand at our clothe iale which is where people try to steal stuff all the time, but are stopped by the ink tags we put on them. They tried and tried but to no avail and looked defeated as they walked to the front of the store, my manager Daniel, noticed that they were acting suspicious and started to follow them it was like watching a game of cat and mouse. Daniel had to keep his distance, because for Dollar General employees to do anything we have to catch them in the act. He then followed them to the back left corner of the store where the cleaning supplies are,and they were trying to steal some blue dawn dish soap and Daniel stopped them by walking close to them. Form the office I didn’t hear Daniel say a word, He just gave them a stern look and they put it back on the shelf with the animal toys which was behind them. Daniel didn’t put it back because he had to follow them out of the front door to make sure they weren’t taking any more of our merchandise. When all three of them walked outside the older teenager gave the younger one a cigarette (we can’t sell the older one cigarette anymore Because it is illegal and we can lose our licence to sell tobacco products.). Daniel told the other cashier not to sell cigarettes to them.

Most of the bottles placed into the purse retail at more than $150 each. The store's undercover security guard, Amare Sitota, watched Wilson as she placed the perfume bottles in her purse. on a less then pleasant day the weather was cold and rainy so before I left the safety of my car I turned my collar up to face the cold and made a bee line to the store so fast it would put Usain Bolt to shame. When I walked in the store I was greeted by the smell of coffee and sound of The Rolling Stones song Monkey Man playing over the store speakers with the owner of the store john singing along to the song and throwing his arms up like a monkey. As soon as you walk into the store your face to face with a giant rack of used DVDs ranging from Driving Miss Daisy to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre the store itself is not very big on the left side of the store is a shelf contain records from Abba to Rob Zombie on the right side is a shelf holding the cds. I was immediately welcomed by john who sitting down in behind his cash register with a sign on it that read “No Personal Check” behind him was a giant poster of Frank Zappa which seemed like one of his most prized positions john had. John had on a tie dyed rolling stones shirt john had looked tried and he seemed to be discomfort later I found out he looked that way due to having MS.…

I decided this summer, to use the free time for painting a comic. The protagonist of this comic, I determined, was a homeless person of color living in NYC. Notwithstanding I have been always especially active in my community, and have volunteered in several programs that benefit homeless people of color and LGBTQ, the research I made about homeless people in NY was an eye opener.…

A life in the ghetto is no life at all. Especially in Molesville, Pennsylvania, a town left in the dust by modern society. Ever since I can remember my mother has been sick, this terrible place is the cause. With little sanitation the streets are rat infested and the poor die young. We had not had enough money, when my father left us, to afford food to live with, let alone go get help from a doctor. After my mother’s pregnancies she gradually became more and more sick. I thought my mother was in pain from the way she sat on her bed constantly crying. That theory was proven one day when her will to fight died. She transformed into a being of hatred. Her heart turned as black as the night. She was different, the mother I once knew dead. Although I knew she was still there, deep, deep down waiting for me to rescue her from herself. In almost an instant I decided the only way to save her was to earn the money for…

On a cold, brisk snowy night in New York City little did I know I was about to make an encounter with someone I'd never forget. I was waiting for a friend in McDonald's so she could get her food and stay inside for warmth, when I realized someone not too far behind me was talking. Startled, I turned around I saw a homeless man wrapped in torn up blankets, shaggy, undone brown hair and trying to keep warm like the rest of us. My first instinct was to stay clear until a woman had drooped her purse and money rolled around his feet, as he bent down to retrieve the money to all our disbelief he handed her the money and told her something extraordinary. As he handed the woman back her money with shaky hands, he looked down and exclaimed how,"Money…

Mrs. Davis said, “Absolutely, this morning I was getting ready for my meeting when I heard what happened to Katherine and saw you guys over. It’s no fun being homeless. Everyday, I wake up, I am forced to spend another meaningless morning roaming around without a purpose, and another meaningless afternoon fighting for a spot in a shelter. Some days are better than others. Like on days that I make it to a decent shelter, I am blessed with an abundant amount of food, access to clean water, a warm bed that hasn’t been used, and a story from the book of life, aka, the bible. Life is good on those days, and no amount of rejection from the streets can take away my smile when I’m inside a place full of love.…

The moment I looked out the window of the car and my eyes turned to the row of homeless people weaving its way through the traffic begging for money, I jumped out of my seat. It was my first visit to India after leaving the country for the United States. The homeless people's’ hands were making weird gestures and thumping the windows of the honking cars. I could not digest what I was seeing! While reaching out to an old woman to give her some money, I thought about what non homeless people could do to help those without a home and basic needs. Then, I asked myself a question. Why not give them something that will be with them forever and help them out of their poverty and teach them valuable skills? After all, a mountain of…

I handed Sgt. Daves a pair of gloves and set the boxes down on the floor for anyone else that needed them. Sgt. Daves was asking for someone to retrieve a mat because the inmate was lying face down and was continuing to bang his head on the concrete floor. I worked my way past them carefully to get a mat around the corner and brought it back placing it underneath his face. I went back around the corner to get the nurse from medical area and he was already walking through the door to come to check on the inmate. I got down onto my knees and assisted by holding his head and we began discussing rolling him over onto his back. We carefully rolled him over onto his back so that the nurse could assess his head injury and decide if he would need to go to the hospital for further treatment. I began to talk to inmate Chad Fields asking him why he was banging his head onto the floor. He responded saying that the voices were telling him to do it, his children had been killed by the sheriff and he wanted to go to be in heaven with his children. I asked him if he ever drank alcohol, he said “no”. I told him that he could relax his head in my hands, the nurse was back with some water to rinse his wound so that he could take a better look at…

We reached the bank and my dad presented his cheque to the cashier for its encashment. I was sitting and waiting for my dad to come. All of a sudden, a group of people entered into the bank. One of them went directly to the cash counter and gave a chit to the cashier. The cashier lost his senses while the other members of that group took up their arms and started looting the customers on gun point. I tried to be patient and ran out of the bank and called the police from my cell phone to come to the spot and arrest the robbers. So it did. It reached the bank, but by that time, the robbers tried to escape. One of the police officers noted the car's registration number and gave orders to the other police personnel to follow the car and catch the robbers. The other day, I read in the newspapers about the incident of that robbery with all praises for the police party who managed to catch the gang after a long chase and encounter of an hour! After some days, I received a call from the police department appreciating my timely action, which was followed by a formal letter of appreciation from…
