My country is Venezuela. Venezuela is located on the Northern tip of South America and Colombia is it’s neighbor to the West. Venezuela was founded on July 5, 1811 by Simón Bolívar. The inspiration behind the flag originally came from the one used by the liberation leader, Francisco de Miranda from his expedition in 1806. The Venezuelan flags colors are red, blue, and yellow. The yellow stripe is on the top of the flag, the blue is in the middle, and the last stripe is red. In the middle, on the blue stripe there are eight white stars that form an arc. Venezuela’s shield is in the top left corner of the flag. The shield is featured on the flag of the government and military authorities only. The three features that I will explain are the stars on the flag, the significance of the color red on the flag, and also the horse on the shield.…

Since being at IUPUI I have not done much community service mostly because I don't think I realized how many actual opportunities that I would actually enjoy doing where there. I also did not realize the massive amount of cultural events that there are on campus in a variety of capacities from cultural talks to immersion experiences for non-international students. It was almost hard to choose where to get involved thus, I attended more then two events however, IUPUI Day of Caring and ACRIEMA were the most impactful.…

My cultural event is The Color Purple. Not only did I see the show but I was involved in the production. I was assigned to be a crew member, which allowed me to view the show from back stage. As an African American I felt as though this play was a great example of some of our cultural background. From the script to the scenery, this show dealt with many dynamics of African American’s (Black people) around the early 1900’s. The play also explores how life was in Africa during this time period.…
