Each person has their own idea or thoughts on things. You may think that it is silly to live in the country so far from the city while I may think it is silly to live in crowded city. The same goes for perspective educators; each individual has their own opinion of what it is going to be like to become a teacher and what their classroom is going to be like before they have completed their first educational class. As time passes and classes are taken, those preconceived thoughts can have a way of changing your future expectations. Views become more realistic and you understand what there really is to being a good teacher.…

During my short experience in nursing, I have come to the realization that my practice evolves daily based on what I learn, see and often times teach. In this paper I will discuss the reasons for why I have chosen to be a nurse as well as outline the foundation of my philosophy on nursing. Naturally being a nurse I thrive on goals that can be measured, so I will also cover my own personal goals with regard to professional growth.…

My current interest is continuing my education within Riverside Community College. As of right now, I am the first person within my family to obtain an Associates Degree. My responsibilities are working full-time to provide for my wife and my six year old daughter. I currently work fulltime within the Los Angeles County Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. This is a demanding job, which offers few working breaks. At the same time, I attend Riverside Community College as a part-time student. My class schedules usually goes from 6pm-9pm, depending on the type of course I’m taking. After work and school, I go home to a beautiful six-year-old girl who is exceling within her school work. I usually spend the weekends studying with my daughter. During the weekends I usually help my daughter work on her school work, while I’m working on my assignments from Riverside Community College. Life for me has been very interesting. I started off in the nursing field as a nursing assistant and patient care tech at 19 working my way through school both full-time and part-time until I finally graduated from Virginia State University with my Associate’s of Science Degree in Nursing. After accomplishing that goal I have reached somewhat of a plateau in my life I have so many short and long-term goals I want to accomplish both professionally and personally. Some of professional goals are, becoming a supervisor at my current job, obtaining my Advance Life Support Certification, obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, enlisting into the Navy Nurse Corps, becoming a Nurse Practitioner, and eventually one day becoming an Administrator of an Acute Care Facility. As well as having professional goals in life you should have personal goals. My short and long term-personal goals are; relocating to Chicago, Illinois, getting married, and having children. The typical American Dream. These goals are not far from my reach with self motivation and perseverance all of these goals can be accomplished.…

Sample Personal History Statement Personal History Statement In an essay, discuss how your personal background informs your decision to pursue a graduate degree. Please include any educational, cultural, economic, or social experiences, challenges, or opportunities relevant to your academic journey; how you might contribute to social or cultural diversity within your chosen field; and/or how you might serve educationally underrepresented segments of society with your degree. The writer of this personal history statement also authored the statement of purpose. In this essay, she relates how her personal background informs her decision to pursue graduate studies in history. With permission of the author, I have reprinted her essay, parsed with my comments on why and how it works as a winning essay. I am impressed by the anomaly I have become: a female student of Mexican descent specializing in early modern European history.1 My undergraduate curriculum, which consisted mainly of English classes on Shakespeare or Milton and history courses on the Enlightenment and the Reformation, belied my ethnic origins.2 In fact, I can recall those uncomfortable moments in class when I would pause to glance around the room, realizing that I was the only brown student in a lecture hall of sixty or eighty students.3 Despite these occasional setbacks, I continued, headstrong, to pursue my passion for all things early modern. And I credit my academic success and accomplishments to my firm resolve to study only that which interested me and not that for which I was intended.4 Yet there comes a time when an amateur scholar becomes a professional, at which point she must reconcile somehow her personal life and past with her new career and future. Finding myself on the verge of that transition, I feel it is an adequate time to reflect on how my scholarly interests intersect with my cultural upbringing.5 It is this odd but unique relationship between my identity as an historian of…

Back in the late 1980’s to the early 1990’s when I was a young girl, I remember when our generation knew to be in the house when the street lights came on. Sometimes my parents were waiting in the front room with a belt if we didn’t make it in on time. Those were the days when most children listen to their parents and we all played outside with no worries. I pray for the kids today because they face so many issues that our generations didn’t have to.…

Even after writing what must be hundreds of thousands of words, my fear of the blank page still remains! This fear loomed again a few months ago when I was invited by a client to give a presentation to a group of careers professionals as part of a seminar series sharing ideas about how to enhance their work on personal development with graduates. After getting through my ‘writers block’, I took this opportunity to develop an idea I had been mulling over for a while – though certainly not one I claim as my own – the idea that we can view personal development as a way of changing the stories we tell about ourselves. Here is a summary of the thinking behind the presentation.…
