Personal Reflective Analysis: Morehouse College Quartet
There are often times where I as the baritone of the Morehouse College Quartet have to conduct my own personal reflective analysis of performances. During these personal reflective analysis' I have intrinsically accept my mistakes and create a plan of action to correct the mistakes to move forward to be a better member of the team. For example, when we performed at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Marietta, GA; there was a moment during our set where I completely forgot the lyrics; which in turn left my part unsung, furthermore not ensuring that the group upheld the legacy of excellence. In that moment I knew that the other members of the quartet would be upset, which they had every right to be, however I knew that I could not dwell on the mistake.

    Damn Fever Monologue

I thought I would immediately rush the stage and began belting out the tunes of the song, amazing the audience with my brilliant monologue. Reality quickly set in. It seems I was rather naïve to think this way because before I could do perform, there was much work to be done. For starters, I had to rehearse and practice my lines over and over until I memorized them. This was not easy since I had to absorb the essence of the message behind every line of my monologue. “Was I expressing the correct emotions? Was I angry or was I expressing a joyous emotion?” There were doubts that crossed my mind. Before I could sing “Heart,” I had to participate in vocal warm-ups making sure to carry out every note clearly, making sure to carefully…

Once the time came to decide on who would conduct the finale, the choice was clear. The director saw my potential and inclination to achieve greatness during our rehearsals and chose me over many other talented individuals. Over the course of the next two months, I alone spearheaded every rehearsal, often spending hours a day in the band room providing both artistic and technical instruction to an ensemble of roughly 140 members. It was not until then that I had realized how difficult it was to convey artistic choices to such a large group of students effectively, but I eventually overcame the many obstacles that my lack of experience presented and skillfully conducted the finale at our concert. The piece received a standing ovation from the audience, but more importantly, a profound emotional response from many members of the audience that manifested as both tears and elated shouts. My director commented that it was the most efficient and successful finale piece he had ever seen. Similarly, I recently placed first in a district-wide audition between all the high school tenor saxophonists across multiple cities for entrance into a symphonic band. Unlike almost all musicians of my caliber, I have not had to rely on private lessons from professional…

In this paper we present the Castilian translation of The Blazing World (1666) by Margaret Cavendish (to be published by Ediciones Siruela in April 2017). We divide our discussion on three points. First, we review the receipt of Margaret Cavendish in the field of Castilian language, doing much attention to translations of his works as to works that allude to the author. Secondly, we present how we have solved some major problems posed by the translation of the text as adopted for treatments between different characters (eg, typical rhetorical turns of the time, some archaic words and grammatical constructions, and some polysemic or historical semantic changes, as in "art", "artificial", "fancy", "wit". Finally, we present as we have structured…

The abilities an individual possesses are an accumulation of their previous life experiences and the various competences which have been practiced for many years. Often times, these skills are overlooked and taken for granted as we never actually think about them in terms of their effect on our potential career choices. After thinking about my personal skills, I compiled a list which included; communication, cooperation, patience, listening, helping others and perseverance; all skills which I have possessed for majority of my lifetime and have used to overcome many challenges. One example in particular which required me to draw on many of these skills, was fairly recently; I am a dance instructor for children ages four to seven and there was a young boy who joined the class later than the rest of the students. I noticed that he was struggling…

In this task I will be reflecting upon an incident undertaken on area of my work. The model of reflection I’ve chosen is Gibbs (1988), which involves reflection on the description, feelings, evaluation, conclusion and action plan (Gibbs 1988). The Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle is fairly straightforward and encourages a clear description of the situation, analysis of feelings, evaluation of the experience, analysis to make sense of the experience, conclusion where other options are considered and reflection upon experience to examine what you would do if the situation arose again. The procedure in which I will be reflecting upon is Last offices; I chose this due to how constructive and valuable it was in my personal and professional development as a student practitioner nurse.…

As nervous as I was when I walked into Saint Joseph Catholic School (K-8) for my first day of kindergarten, I never thought I would be able to leave after 6th grade and enter the world of middle school. In a small school of about 400 kids, I was familiar with every face that passed by me in the hallway. I got to know the kids in my grade so well and we all knew each other’s life stories. By the time I was in 6th grade at Saint Joseph, some of my friends were planning on going to Kinard middle school in 7th grade. At this point in my life, I was not completely content with where I was going to school. The realization came to me that it was time to move on. It was time for me to try something new.…

I went into the most influential audition of my vocal career completely blind. Third block on a dreary spring afternoon, the promise of Friday dangling in the air, the room frigid as I contemplated something that would change the course of my life as revealed in hindsight. Vocal Ensemble had been something I considered going out for, tossing around the notion in my head; however, it would require introverted self to put aside my fears of judgment, which was a battle that could never be won. My heart was pounding in sync with the ticking of the clock, time was running out; it was now or never. I was clueless as to what a scale should sound like, let alone the section of a piece I had never seen in my life and would have to conquer. At stake was making a fool of myself like never before in front of my favorite teacher and peers. Utter humiliation. But something inside me willed me to raise my hand and go for it. My personal philosophy is that I would rather try and fail than not try and be haunted by the ghost of what could have been; the pain of missed potential is worse than the pain of rejection. Trembling, I made my way to the front of the room, choking out my name for the recording before the scales began to play. Somewhere in the midst of the anxious turmoil in my mind, I heard a voice singing in perfect harmony with the piano. Slowly, I became self-aware, processing the fact that I indeed was singing;…

It is language that is the only tool that man can draw on to communicate with each other. Every country has its own national language. However, there is a universal language that even people who are deaf and/or speech-impaired can use. It is body language. Yet most people are still ignorant of the existence of body language although it is used by them very regularly and plays an important role in our life, on almost all aspects. “Body language” by Allan Pease is an interesting and useful book and gives readers a deeper understanding about this subject.…
