Thesis Statement and Informal Outline Worksheet

In this course, you will write a 700- to 1,400-word Personal Responsibility Essay, due in Week Five, which includes the following:

Definition of personal responsibility and what it means to you.
What personal responsibility means to me, first thing is making sure that I am mentally capable of understanding my actions and what they may result in. I guess what I'm trying to say is everyone should be able to take responsibility for their own actions. *
Explain the relationship between personal responsibility and college success.
I think without personal responsibility you would not be able to take care of what you need to do to succeed, not only in school but in life itself. In school you have homework, right? Well, I think if that if a person did not have personal responsibility they wouldn't care about getting it done, therefore causing them to get a bad grade or fail. Therefore this is very important to show that you are a responsible person and will be able to succeed in college.
Include a preliminary plan to practice personal responsibility in your education.
Well, my plan is going to consist of putting time aside for myself to concentrate on my studies. I plan to at least take about an hour to read, then another hour to review all the facts i found. Then probably two to four hours on the computer writing and sending all of my assignments in.

This week, using the Center for Writing Excellence resources, provide the thesis statement and informal outline for your Personal Responsibility Essay assignment, due in Week Five.

Personal responsibility is an essential element in every aspect of one’s life. What exactly does personal responsibility mean; the answer is most likely different for everyone. Chuck Gallozzi may have summed it up best when he stated, “Responsibility is not a burden, it is a blessing” (Gallozzi, 2009, title page). Those nine simple words speak volumes in that taking responsibility or holding oneself accountable, answerable, for their actions or inactions, accepting the consequences that result from those actions or inactions and most important, understanding the effect one has on family, friends, loved ones, coworkers, and classmates. Gallozzi went on to say, “No, we are not responsible for all that happens to us, but we are responsible for how we think, feel and act when they happen” (Gallozzi, 2009, Para 1).…
