Even though personal responsibility can mean more work, it is a valuable trait and essential to a fulfilling life because not accepting personal responsibility can make you fearful of taking risks, making decisions and unsuccessful at the endeavors you take on.
Personal responsibility is more than just taking action on your responsibilities; it is also about recognizing what those responsibilities are. The typical life of a student is fraught with opportunities for both success and failure. Unfortunately, for most, the best opportunities require work and come with responsibilities. Knowing what they are and where will aid a student in achieving their ultimate goals. On the same page, it is also valuable to be able to understand when you are not responsible for something. By creating too much work for himself and denying help from others a student could be led to failure or undesirable results.
Recognizing the value of goals can help the student grow, more specifically it can create a clear and productive path to developing a plan for concluding responsibilities. Knowing what those responsibilities are, while very important, is not the only thing that a student will need for success. It is also necessary to know how to take care of those responsibilities. Creating clearly defined tasks or goals and some sort of support system to hold the student accountable for responsibilities will keep the student honest and driven, while at the same time ensuring success. Holding others responsible for their responsibilities can relieve some of the stress on the student’s shoulders and create a cooperative working environment.
Being talented with the management of responsibilities will create a more successful learning climate and ensure you receive the grades and recognition deserved by the student and his or her team mates. Knowing exactly what the professor expects of
Bibliography: Doug Toft. (2011). Becoming a Master Student, Thirteenth Edition. Retrieved from GEN200 website. This is an excellent reference for my paper as it is the assigned course reading from which many lectures and discussions for this course are derived. This book focuses on many aspects of a developing student and provides excellent definitions for terms and explanations of personal responsibility. This is an educational book with no bias and provides only facts and generalized knowledge. Solomon, C. R. (2008). People at work: Life, power, and social inclusion in the new economy. Retrieved from http://www.eric.ed.gov/PDFS/ED366425.pdf. This reference provides an excellent look at personal responsibility from perspective that approaches it as valuable in both personal and social relationships. As such it is important to sort what is personal responsibility from what social responsibility is. This can make some parts of this book section confusing. The information inside the book is well documented and notated which increases my confidence in its reliability and leads me to believe it is a strong source. Nauss, S. A. (2010, January 1). Student-Led Conferences: Students Taking Responsibility. Online Submission. Retrieved from http://www.eric.ed.gov/PDFS/ED516784.pdf. This is a counterpoint to the other two references that approaches lack of student responsibility as a problem to be solved and provides many examples on how it could be improved. While this work is clearly constructed by someone that has strong beliefs on what should be expected of a student, it does not mean his conclusions are altogether wrong. The detailed references and numerous citations throughout this paper lend credence to its claims and examples. Bacon, C. S. (1991). Being held responsible versus being responsible. This is an excellent resource that creates a barrier between being responsible and being held responsible. It is valuable to a research paper to clearly define the exact definition of what the paper is about. This academic journal presents opinions on the differences between being responsible and being held responsible. While there are references to lend strength to said opinions, the student will be careful to only cite well documented examples.
