My parents, on the other hand, felt indifferent. Their decision was set in stone, I could not go because it would be too far from home, and I would be associating with people who do not have the same faith as my parents. I believe I have missed out on a lot of opportunities, but I have learned many lessons and virtues from the past. I have learned to be strong and just grin and bear through it all. And I have greatly appreciated my friends, who have been there for me through rough times, and the education I was able to receive. Education is the best opportunity anyone can have and it is one that I haven't missed out on. And so I have appreciated my teachers who have been there for me when any challenges may arise. Coming to America, my parents struggled with the language barrier. Speaking broken English, my father had to work as a low-paying carpenter to support our family, while my mother went to English-learning classes. At the same time, my mother had to stay home and take care of me after I was done with elementary school because we could not afford a babysitter. At home, my mother always studied for her English classes past midnight, while pushing me to do better in school. I had to ask my teachers for English and math textbooks to take home so that I can have extra practice because my mother knew I needed it to catch up to other students. Both my parents worked hard under dire circumstances in order to get accustomed to their new lifestyle. Looking at how my parents struggled, I knew what I needed to earn: a college education for a better future. I have taken steps necessary, such as enrolling in a college-bound program, AVID, and studying for my classes to earn the best grades that I can get. As a result, I have received the Principal's Honor Roll award for all four years in high school and Student of the Month award out of all the twelfth grade students. Even with the difficulty of not speaking fluent English, I continued to work hard with the support and encouragement from my parents.…

I have worked for the NHS for over 3 years now, and have been a Health Care Assistant for 16 months. Prior to this I worked as an Ambulance Care Assistant for East Midlands Ambulance Service. I have had experience in patient care from washing, bathing, monitoring vital signs, and working both in the community and in a hospital setting. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team has helped me effectively care for my patients and developed my communication skills in working with other NHS professionals. One of the most satisfying parts of my job now, and in my previous role is the direct patient contact. Developing trusting relationships and listening to them is very rewarding and helps me to get to know my patients, show empathy and maintain their dignity. I am used to shift working, working 7 days a week with various shift patterns, so this side of the role will not faze me.…
