My personal statement: Joel Opoku-ware

I would like to study a course in Mechanical Engineering, becuase ive been very instreasted in the aspects of how engines work and im eager to learn more and expand on the knownledge i have already and be able to be apart futuristic and life changing developments. For a long time now i've been someone that always likes to know how things work, so i would always dismantle items such as phones computers and other sorts of gadgets and see how they work and then put them back together again. Because of me always taken items apart, whenever there is a problem with the TV or one of my friends or families phone i've been the person that they will call to fix it. what i wanted to do in the future wasn't really clear to me but i always had the desire to build within me. it became clear to me in my last years of secondary school when i was picking courses to do for college. And i realized that my choice had to be BTEC level 3 extended diploma in engineering, because i wanted to pick something that i will enjoy and the course description drew me in and i believed that the course will help me to choose what type of engineering i would wnat to do.

At the moment i am studying BTEC level 3 extended diploma in Engineering” I enjoy many parts of the course my favorite parts are the maths and the mechanics side. Math’s is something I really enjoy I sometimes come to points where I find certain equations too difficult, so when it comes to the time where we are would be assessed or have assignments I would stay after school for math’s workshops to help me understand what ever I’m finding difficult. Such as subjects like algebra where at the start it was difficult, but over time spent in various workshops I gained an understanding of it so that now it’s become something so simple to me. At the moment where learning more about engines such as jet engines and car engines and how they work and where also going to put in the math’s aspect to

Wood Working and engineering courses both interest me greatly. I have taken classes on these subjects at my high school and done very well in them. In high school, I enjoyed reading novels such as Four Seasons by Stephen King and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. I enjoyed reading these books because they keep you on the edge of your seat and won’t let you put the book down. I enjoy letting my mind imagine what things might look like while reading a book. This made the experience of reading them so enjoyable for me, and made English class one of my academic interests. My main academic interest however is aviation. I am excited to have the opportunity to study this subject academically. I always like to know how complex systems work, especially in aircraft. I am interested in learning more about aircraft systems such as Ground Proximity Warning Systems, and Resolution Advisory Systems because of how interesting they are to me. I want to know everything about commercial airliners. I want to know how all of the systems and instruments work, what they do, and how to control them. I am intrigued to know what every switch, knob and button does on an airliner. I am also excited for every course that is part of the aviation curriculum, such as meteorology and flight physics; weather patterns at flight levels interest me. I am egger to learn…

Whs has also taught me how to manage my time. This will help me in college, and use up my time more efficiently. Also Whs taught how to work with other people and communicate with other people. In my classes, I was required to work with other people I might not feel comfortable around. This taught me to be a better communicator and showed me how to work with others. When I go to college, it will be a whole new environment and since school has taught me to work with other, I think it should come easy to me. Having grown up in a household with a „hands-on‟ father, I became interested in the technological aspects of life from a young age. My passion for technology was the deciding factor in choosing a technical high school over an academic high school. I completed grade 12 in Rhodesfield High School with Mechanical Engineering as technical subject. My secondary education was complemented in 2006 with a National Diploma in Mechatronic Engineering from Tshwane University of Technology. In 2011, I realised that I needed to expand my knowledge in the technical environment to stay competitive, and thus enrolled for a part time Bachelor of Technology degree in…
