Personal Statement: A Career In Microbiology
For as long as I can remember, science has always interested me. Also, I have always been fairly good at it. When I was younger, I would ask all of my family members what their profession was, and I remember my aunt told me she was a scientist. I did not exactly know what that meant at the time, but I knew it sounded interesting. I think anything with science interests me because I like the fact that things can be explained through science. I have always been fascinated to know how things work and why or how they happen. That is why microbiology is perfect for me. I like finding out how or why something can happen and I can do that if I go into the field of science. I have been looking into colleges and professions recently and I have become very interested in microbiology. Microbiology is the study of microorganisms. Microbiologists try to understand the organisms and how they interact with their …show more content…
(Ecologist Job Description). In all honesty, I have not really looked into the benefits of the careers I am thinking about pursuing even though I know they will be important in the long run. In another source that tells what the education requirements is to become an ecologist, it says that practical experience is very important. It says one should volunteer or work as a professor's lab assistant or spend some time at a biological field station. The source explains that many colleges off Research Experiences for Undergraduates or REU programs. One can search for internships through the Environmental Careers Organization and get help from the Student Conservation Association, which helps match students with volunteer opportunities in their field of study. (What is an Ecologist?). I think I would have no problem finding work experience or internships because I would be so interested and ready to get started, that I would jump on any opportunity

Astronomy was the first science that interested me. As a child I subscribed to Young People's Records. Every month I received in the mail a 10-inch 78 RPM record, or sometimes a package of two records. One day I received a record called "By rocket to the moon". It contained a fictional story about a trip by space ship around the moon and back to Earth, some 19 years before that actually happened, as well as some facts about the planets, which in those days included Pluto. That sparked my interest in astronomy. I devoured every children's book about astronomy in the public library. I soon found that to deepen my knowledge of astronomy I had to learn more physics; so I started reading physics books and soon got interested in that subject…

I was introduced to the field I am interested in from my 9th grade biology class. Prior to the course, I had never taken biology or any science, for that matter, that had captured my attention such as this year-long experience. I was intrigued by the subject and fascinated with all the advances in society that have been made by scientists throughout the years. The possibility of being able to do this in the future kept me engaged and I further pursued this interest by currently taking AP Biology. In addition, I was inspired by the change that scientists can make through research and…

I have been interested in science and math since I was reading books with science experiments in second grade. Applying math and science skills to solve everyday problems has intrigued me from an early age. I am always curious about how things work. Since taking AP Physics this year, I have been able to appreciate how math and science work together. I have taken other rigorous courses, but often it felt like learning math was isolated from other coursework. Math challenges me to problem solve and think at a higher level. I also love science, but until I took AP Physics my science classes were too easy. The labs in freshmen and sophomore science were enjoyable, but I never got a sense of how they connected to other concepts in Biology and Chemistry.…

Only being in the 11th grade, there are not any groundbreaking achievements I have made so far. One accomplishment that still stands out to me is when I was the only freshman to be interviewed and picked to be Bio-Med officer. This still holds a special place because it was defeinly one of my proudest moments. I am not the smartest person, or the best. I make mistakes, but I always try my hardest and put passion into everything I do. I was competing against 25 other freshman, and I was able to be the only 9th grader picked. My comeption wad tough, and some of the most intelligent people were also competing for this position. This definetlyl made me realize that being the smartest person is not everything.
