I attended the career fair event in the Carson Center with the intent to talk to people willing to employ Athletic Trainers. I had been looking forward to it, and soon realized it was not what I thought it would be. I had previously looked into a few of the participant’s companies and found a few that might be worth talking to. However, this number was few and far between for only Athletic Training jobs. Some of the people I talked to were more interested in me if I had a Pre-Physical Therapy track rather than just Athletic Training, such as Common Wealth Health Corporation, Wabash Christian Therapy, and Pro Rehab. Considering I have not yet decided if I wanted to just go into Physical Therapy or just Athletic Training yet. Meeting these people felt like I was almost incompetent with my future degree since I am leaning towards a Master’s in Athletic Training.…

The abilities an individual possesses are an accumulation of their previous life experiences and the various competences which have been practiced for many years. Often times, these skills are overlooked and taken for granted as we never actually think about them in terms of their effect on our potential career choices. After thinking about my personal skills, I compiled a list which included; communication, cooperation, patience, listening, helping others and perseverance; all skills which I have possessed for majority of my lifetime and have used to overcome many challenges. One example in particular which required me to draw on many of these skills, was fairly recently; I am a dance instructor for children ages four to seven and there was a young boy who joined the class later than the rest of the students. I noticed that he was struggling…
