The intense roaring of the crowd gradually faded into the vast abyss of his mind. As the last seconds ticked away, his breath got heavier and he knew that it was now or never. He knew he had to make the shot, he could not just mess this one up. At that last moment when the ball left his hands flying into the air, time seemed to have slowed down as the buzzer went off simultaneously.…
Coach K believes in empowering his players and sets high goals and maintains standards. He leads with respect. He leads through personal power of being referent. Both coaches are passionate, disciplined, and competent in their jobs as a coach and care a lot for the players both on and off the court. They both motivate the players. Coach K uses social intellect, is open and agreeable. The leadership style of Bonny Knight is more inline with the managerial role. Coach K’s leadership style is more in line with the leadership role. (Silverthorne, 2006)…
In the play Antigone, Creon was not a tragic hero. According to Aristotle there are five characteristics of a tragic hero; those are: falling from grace, hero must have a tragic flaw that results in their downfall, hero does not deserve their fate, audience feels pity for the character, the fall is pure is not pure loss, and the tragic hero accepts his fate. Creon did not fall from grace, he deserved his fate, we don’t feel pity for him,the fall was pure loss, and he did not accept his fate. Although he did have a tragic flaw, he was stubborn…
Playing CBAA for nine years has taught me so many values that I carry throughout my life now. With many years of league experience behind me, I learned from several great coaches how to think quickly and play not for myself, but for my team. I also saw that a good basketball team communicates well and learned that in doing so, everyone on the team can play well. With these skills I also learned I can work well with others in all types of settings, such as my job as a barista and my volunteer work as a National Honors Society member . I have also been taught how to be realistic but yet optimistic.. Not everyone, including myself, is a star player, and improving in itself is an accomplishment that we all should want to achieve.…
In ninth-grade, I was on the C team and my basketball coach explained to me that it was because he wanted to keep me and my sister together. However, my tenth-grade season came and I was again on the C team, while my younger sister was on the JV team. I was devastated. I had never felt like so much of a failure. My younger sister was better than me and I just wanted to quit. But, how could I give up on something I had put so many years into? Then I realized that I am not my sister and her talents are not my talents. I could contribute differently from her. So, I continued to work hard and my efforts paid off. Junior year I was starting for the JV team and it was clear that my improvements are what I truly cared…
I was an eight year old kid when I had my first ever glimpse of the NBA Basketball. It was a lanky afro manchild doing a reverse dunk versus Indiana right in front of the Laker crowd. Crowd was in awe, Commentators were ecstatic and Kevin Harlan in his usual voice saying, Kobe can’t be denied. That day, my love affair with the Los Angeles Lakers started.…
On January 26th, I made a huge error in my basketball game against West Central. To anybody else, that game might have seemed unimportant- insignificant really. They were not a conference rival or a sectional team. To me however, this game was very significant because I used to attend that school. At that game, I played all of my friends from kindergarten to fifth grade. I hoped that I didn’t make a fool of myself. I hoped to do amazing so that all of my old friends would see what a great basketball player I had become. I hoped that I would make a play so amazing that everyone would remember it. While I would certainly not forget the play I made, it was not the spectacular one I had dreamed. My gym teacher- Mr. Prairie asked the class, “Who’s ready for the basketball game tonight against West Central,” and I wondered if I was. Because of my insistent worrying I could not manage to make a play through all of gym class (we were playing basketball)…
For as long as I remember, I have been raised with a basketball hoop. This hoop stood firmly, looking down at the trees secured by patches of cement in my backyard, in my neighborhood, Dorchester. This hoop was my center of faith and tranquility surrounded by gunfires, shattering windows, car alarms. As a girl, I learned not to adventure any place else other than this hoop because going beyond its faded lines on the concrete is an unknown world full of hazards and danger. And when I did cross these seraphic lines, I could sense the bittersweet emotions running throughout the neighborhood, my home.…
I have joined many extracurricular activities in school such as, Cross Country, Track, National Honor Society and UIL math competitions. From all this clubs I have been the leader for Track and Cross Country. I was the captain for track when I was in 10th grade also I have been the leader for cross country since my junior year. While leading this teams there were some obstacles we overcame as a team. We was not fast enough to win anything during my first year of leading the team, we was not as famous as we are now. We did not had many supporters in the arena we compete in also our own school kids did not knew us, all they knew were the football team, basketball and soccer team. This really upset me because I and my teammates deserved to be…
One extremely important activity outside of the classroom that has helped me grow as an individual is Church League basketball at my local YMCA. From the outside looking in this league seems to be a form of glorified pick-up basketball with referees and a scoreboard but there is so much more to it. Almost half way through my junior year my father convinced me to try out for the varsity basketball team at school in November to which I hesitated at first but later gave in and tried out only to be cut. At first I was upset because I had never been cut from a team and I was unsure of how to handle it and what to do with my free time. This prompted me to reach out to God and ask him for a sense of direction and purpose in this time of my life to which He responded with a friend inviting me to Church League basketball. Once I experienced a few scrimmages and practices I decided to commit to playing Church League and coming to all of the…
The game took place on a cold, November afternoon in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It was the last game of the tournament and we, the CBS Falcons, faced the Red Dogs in the championship game. We were confident about our chances of victory; however, our confidence was quickly put to the test when we first saw the other team. This game taught me never again to judge a book by its cover and that effort can trump skill.…
My heart won’t stop racing, I don’t know why and, My eyesight starting to fade away slowly like I had glaucoma. All the surrounding noise around me by the crowd had me going deaf, then I started to sweat from all the pressure around me like a morning workout. I was zoning out of nowhere, and then I started to realize I was nervous as heck. The crowd started to go wild when the announcers started to announce the starting five for each team. That’s the pressure I get every game I played that year of my freshmen year in my high school basketball games. I loved playing freshman basketball because the road trips we went to together. the thrill you get out of the games we played and lastly the team was like a family to me.…

It all started when we were 12 years old. Jovan, Kaleb, Easton and I had been best friends ever since we were kids. We always dreamed about being on a real NBA team. It finally happened in 2024. We were the top rated prospects in the draft. Going 1, 2, 3, 4 in the draft. We all got drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder who had been worst in the league 2 years in a row. After they drafted us, we got a Power forward and a good bench unit. This season was looking bright.…
Throughout my softball career I have been a team player and leader. I often played as a utility player adapting to the team’s needs. My sophomore year of high school, myself and another teammate were co-captains. After getting hurt that season, I decided on starting the first Unified sports team at my high school. When creating the program, I wanted to create an inclusive environment that fostered teamwork and sportsmanship between people with intellectual and/or physical disabilities and those without disabilities. I believe that by playing sports myself was very instrumental in the success of the program I established. The Unified team that I play on has some of the best comradeship I have had on a team. Personally, I have seen a change in my sportsmanship. I have seen a return of the care-free pure enjoyment of…
