Personal Writing Assignment My writing process usually begins the day I find out I have a writing assignment. Depending on the type of paper and topic, I read through the material and let my mind brainstorm on it for a day or so. For example, I had a psychology research paper due last semester with a multitude of topics to choose from. The first thing I did was read through the topics and make sure I fully understood what each one meant. After a day to mull over my options, I made my choice and began creating my writing plan. For me, the writing plan or outline is crucial in a research paper. Before I even begin doing research, I take out a sheet of notebook paper and jot down a few ideas of what my supporting paragraphs will cover. This allows me to refine me research to the specific points and supporting details. Once I have determined the key points of my paper, I begin to do research. I usually do most reading online, so I start a folder on my desktop to keep all the files I will be using. During this time I also go ahead and format my references for a bibliography or works cited page. I think this saves time. Once I have enough research to properly fill out my supporting paragraphs, I begin the writing process. I prefer to write the entire paper in one sitting. While I do space out the research development of the paper, the actual writing is something I cannot take a break from and come back to. Once my ideas are ready, I have a gnawing urge to get the down on paper. I may scribble a few notes on my original outline while writing, but I compose my entire paper, from start to finish, on my computer. When the paper is finished I proof read, save it and walk away. I do not go back and make any major alterations that day. Usually, my husband will read through the paper the next day and make a few grammatical corrections or tell me I should change something around. I benefit most from having him read it out loud. I always wait at least a day to make changes or corrections to my paper, because I feel to close to it immediately after I have written it to see the flaws clearly. I enjoy the writing process. I like having assigned topics, but a range of them so that I can pick the one I am most interested in. I like having guideline and constraints in a paper, but not so much so that I feel like I am answering a predetermined series of questions, rather than writing from your own creativity. I usually spend four or five days working on a paper. This includes a day or two to think about the topic, and another day for corrections and formatting. The timeline really depends on the paper. For example, this assignment required no research, and is written in first person. I will spend no more than two days working on this assignment. I think one of my biggest strengths in writing is my detail and focus. I have been praised in the past for well thought out structure and flow in my papers. That is one of the very first things I focus on when preparing to write. Conclusions have always haunted me and are my biggest weak spot. I struggle with conclusions the most. I have a hard time finding a way to reword the introduction without sounding cliché. My conclusions are usually too abrupt and feel rushed. I would love to discover a new method to improve concluding paragraphs during this course.

I believe the writing process is very complex but simple. The steps to the research process simple to follow, but complex at executing. I believe, that you have to find credible sources to retain information about your topic. Someone cannot simply just Google everything, and believe that all of the information is credible. The researcher has to check out books, and other resources to get the best information about their topic. After gathering information, the researcher has to present it in a way that their audience could understand.…

Out of all the steps in my writing process, I believe prewriting was the most helpful. In prewriting you’re supposed to let your thoughts flow without stopping and making changes. So because I didn’t take the time to stress on proper grammar and more, I was able to start my first draft faster. Prewriting also helped me narrow what I wrote into groups, in this case the importance of rice in my family. Not only did prewriting help me narrow my writing into groups, but it also helped me, who was struggling, to find topics to talk about.…

My writing process all depends on what I am writing. Some writings I can sit down and write the whole things and be done with it, while others can take me multiple days or even weeks. I normally sit down and work on it until I finish, get tired of it, or a hit a roadblock. I try to stop when I feel like I am writing the same thing over and over or if I feel like I just need a break. Most of the time, if I feel like I am writing and it is really bad, it is because it is and I need to take a break and come back to it later. Working on it in pieces normally works well for me, to break it up and take it a little bit at a time. I normally struggle when I do not like what I am writing about or when I run out of information to put in my writing. I…

In school, we have been required to write many papers on many different subjects, some being timed and others not. Writing has never been something that has come easy to me, especially when put on the spot and told to write a paper in a certain amount of hours. When I write, I like to have time to think and plan my essay. Being able to revise and edit the paper makes it even better than it was before. When I am given the time to plan my essay, the writing has more depth than when I am put on the spot and have no time to think about what will go into my paper.…

Immediately, when I turned sixteen I woke up in the morning and saw a pair of shinny silver keys sitting on my desk. I jumped up with excitement and rushed out the door wearing only my boxers, with the keys dangling in my hand. There it was: my brand new GMC Envoy, dark hunter green with a wax that could blind you. I stared at the car with excitement and admiration; it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, and it was mine. I took it for a test drive around the block and opened it up on the highway only three blocks from my house. It had a V8 under the hood, black leather seats, a Bose sound system and enough horsepower to tow anything I desired. After my first test drive around the neighborhood, I picked up the phone and called my friends. I couldn't wait to show off my new car. With a quick thank you and a hug for my parents, I sprinted out the door. Hearing a faint be careful from my mom in the background, I slammed the front door and raced to my car.…

Writing has not always been a strong suit of mine. Even in the present moment I sometimes struggle with writing. I have done numerous papers, ranging from daily journals to argumentative essays. I will admit that the older I grew I realized that writing helps in many ways. It can be a form of stress relieving, which I sometimes take into consideration when I have sort of a lot going on mentally. Many writing assignments were about what I liked to do hobby-wise, what my plans were for the future career/ school-wise, how I felt about certain discussed subjects nationwide such as the election of a black president, the rights for gay marriage, as well as oversea discussions, like the human trafficking in Thailand.…
