Personality Test
Personality tests are used to better understand how one is perceived by others in day to day interactions. Although the questions asked seem very random at times, they cover a wide range of topics to better evaluate the individual. Along with evaluating someone’s personality, the tests are also used to give suggestions of possible career fields that would best suit the individual. After taking a few of these tests myself, I hope to have a better idea of my personality and apply the results to my life. After looking through several links, I decided to take the personality test on humanmetrics.com. Since the questions could only be answered with a “yes” or “no,” it was impossible to declare my neutrality on certain answers. The results placed me into four different categories (ESTP), which consisted of sensing, thinking, perceiving, and being an extrovert. Among the career suggestions were, marketing, design, and acting. These career paths were suggested for me because the test indicated that I am an outgoing person who loves being the center of attention and socializing with people. Part of these results are extremely accurate because I am currently majoring in marketing and would love to work with others in the future. As for acting, I tend to get rather nervous in front of large audiences, so the chances of me ever becoming a performer are slim to none. I believe the results could have been more accurate had the test questions been easier to answer. Overall the test gave me some wonderful insight about my personality that I will use in the future but not everything was of use. While taking the second personality test, I realized the questions were more detailed compared to the previous test because there were more than two options to choose from. Despite the greater selection of answers to choose from, I found the results were more inaccurate than the previous test. The test indicated I am only somewhat conventional meaning I like to play it safe.

I must say that I do agree with the results of the test, but there are some aspects of it that I feel to be untrue. In general, I have to always stay busy and involved with various activities. I like being around people, leading, teaching and stimulating others into positive performances. I also like to act on things as opposed to just talking about it. Other people view me as having an outgoing personality. I also am able to relate to and have friends from all walks of life. On the other hand, I am one who does have to think things through, plan ahead, and am very structured (with things in order). I think that I am more a Sensing personality than a Intuitive one. I am more practical and a more hands on individual. Meaning, I often use and trust my experience before words and symbols. (Humanetrics.com, 1998-2011)…

Personality tests are widely used these days in both professional and informal settings. One may take a personality test online, for example; in order to determine how much like a film character they are, or they may take one in an employment process or clinical setting. This essay, however, will only be looking at formal tests. The tests have many uses, including recognizing psychological disorders or calculating future behaviour (Plotnik, 2002). It is important to note that personality tests are like any other instrument used to increase understanding of a topic and, like all instruments and methods, their use can cause both affirmative and undesirable results (Anastasi & Urbina, 1997). We will look at both projective and self-inventory tests and compare their methods in terms of their validity and reliability. There are many different personality tests available today but we are only concerned with the Rorschach Ink Blot test (henceforth referred to as the Rorschach), the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory - 2 (MMPI-2). Before the discussion of validity and reliability of the tests it is essential to comprehend just what personality is and to obtain an elementary outline of the three tests being discussed.…
