My reasons are patriotic, political and personal, and the three are intertwined. All my life, people have told me that my father changed their lives, that they got involved in public service or politics because he asked them to. And the generation he inspired has passed that spirit on to its children. I meet young people who were born long after John F. Kennedy was president, yet who ask me how to live out his ideals.

There is a generation coming of age that is hopeful, hard-working, innovative and imaginative. But too many of them are also hopeless, defeated and disengaged. As parents, we have a responsibility to help our children to believe in themselves and in their power to shape their future. Senator Obama is inspiring my children, my parents’ grandchildren, with that sense of possibility.

Senator Obama is running a dignified and honest campaign. He has spoken eloquently about the role of faith in his life, and opened a window into his character in two compelling books. And when it comes to judgment, Barack Obama made the right call on the most important issue of our time by opposing the war in Iraq from the beginning.
I want a president who understands that his responsibility is to articulate a vision and encourage others to achieve it; who holds himself, and those around him, to the highest ethical standards; who appeals to the hopes of those who still believe in the American Dream, and those around the world who still believe in the American ideal; and who can lift our spirits, and make us believe again that our country needs every one of us to get

On September 5th 2012, former president Bill Clinton stepped on stage to address citizens at the Democratic National Convention and countless other Americans watching from home. Clinton’s speech took place prior to the Republican National Convention, and responds to many of the misleading claims that were made there. Clinton’s clear goal and objective is to inform and educate the American voters as to why he believes Barak Obama should be re-elected as opposed to Governor Romney. In doing this he not only gives the facts, but cements his ethos by referencing his own presidency and letting his record speak for itself on issues such as; jobs, the economy, healthcare, and even the constant bickering between parties.…

George Washington, the First president of the uNited States, was one of those people. Even at an early age Washington displayed characteristics that would empower him to the presidency. The path was not an easy one it required perseverance, ingenuity, and compromise. He was driven by the desire to establish a solid foundation to the new democracy. To help achieve this goal Washington joined the militia and was soon recognized and respected as a leader. Washington was well respected by his peers, and this is why there was a movement afoot to appoint George Washington to the newly created position of President. Washington realized as president that being firm in his beliefs would not allow him to achieve his goals. He understood the need for flexibility and compromise in the positions in which he took. His love of country and the dislike of monarchies and his belief in a strong constitution being necessary to enable free men to govern themselves he dedicated himself to the presidency and to the country. He was the man who could have been a king but refused a crown and saved a…

Way back in 1776 the Declaration of Independence was ratified. The men who it signed had a vision for a new country; a place that would be ruled by democracy and somewhere that people would be able to express themselves freely. At 14, I can hardly match the experience and knowledge they had, but I can still have a vision for America. I want people to be themselves and not worry about potential hate crimes for their identity. I want my sons and daughters to grow up knowing they can do whatever they set their mind to. I want every American to be able to walk into a room and feel truly safe knowing every single person there respects them for being the person they were born to be. I want my children and grandchildren grow up in a world where the word "equal" really does mean "equal".…
