Persuasive Essay About Spring Break
Spring break is a very popular vacation time for both students and teachers. If spring break were to be removed, a large attendance problem would likely erupt during Easter week. Families often have set weeks each year that they take off for vacation, and they would pull their students out of school. Wilson is also struggling with a lack of substitute teachers this year. If all of the teachers are using their vacation days over the same week, the substitute problem would worsen. Also, families aren’t likely to change their vacation week just because of school. People tend to follow tradition. If they’ve been using the week of Easter for the past few years, it is unlikely to change. After all, taking a vacation over spring break is very ideal. Airfare and hotels have decent prices, especially compared to over winter break. In many places, the weather is better during the spring than in winter or summer, and it may not be as crowded as it would be over other school breaks. Winter break is a very traditional and family-based time. Spring break is more relaxed and open to traveling or leisure. It is the perfect time for students and staff to wind-down and have a stress-reliever. Spring break is essential to our education and learning. …show more content…
Wilson has always gotten out of school fairly early compared to our surrounding locations, so what is the point of getting out even earlier? Lots of students have friends from other school districts. If spring break gets shortened, these students would be out of school two or three weeks before their friends. Also, one of the main reasons to shorten break is to avoid conflict with, and allow more time for standardized testing. However, about ___ parents opted their students out of the PSSAs last year, and that number is expected to grow this year and next. Also, school is not supposed to be based on standardized tests, so basing our year’s schedule off of it seems extremely

Over all public schools, there are only 4% that operate on a year round calendar. In that 4% there are 2 million students learning under a year round basis. Besides, year round schedules mitigate education loss from the previous school year. It also tarnishes the tradition of summer break, according to “Should You Give Up Summer Vacation?” by Laura Kelsey. Evidently the year round calendar is a prime solution to alter failing grades and help struggling students catch up. For instance, some students are overwhelmed with work and drama that occurs in school. With that in mind, year round schedules have more spread out recesses eradicating the overwhelming school environment. Simultaneously, year round calendars lessen memory loss between long breaks. Thus helping students retain and understand their curriculum. Lastly, studies show that American students are less proficient in academic topics.…

For some parents the thought of their children attending year round school scares them. Parents do not want their children doing year round school because they are afraid they will not see their children very often. Even though the parents of some students are scared they will not see their child as much, they do not realize that the 3 week breaks after each 9 weeks of school really do benefit the students and it helps them to refresh their minds. It keeps them on track with the pace of their learning as…

It may sound logical but Dr Von Hippel has debunked this myth after completing an experiment. He states, “Students in “year-round” schools don't learn more than their peers in traditional nine-month schools... A sociologist at Ohio State University found that, over a full year, math and reading test scores improved about the same amount for children in year-round schools as they did for students whose schools followed a traditional nine-month calendar.” There's no academic improvement and on top of that many people believe that year round school is longer than a normal school which is also false. They have the same amount of days as a traditional nine-month high school however Instead they have “tracks”. So track 1 could have school for 3 weeks then they would have vacation for 3 weeks while track 2 has 3 weeks of school after coming back from vacation. This also limits who is seen by who every day if two people’s schedules do not cross. Public students should be given what's best for them. If year-round has no academic improvement then why should summer be taken away? At least summer benefits students with nutrients from the…

According to Jaclyn Zubrzycki, who wrote an article for edweek.org, “Others cite the financial toll involved in switching the calendar. Tourism and other industries that count on summer vacation might suffer. High schoolers might be less able to get summer jobs. And the transition brings added costs to school districts, which have to pay for (and sometimes install) utilities in buildings, stipends for teacher, or other associated expenses.” This leads to the assumption that without summer break, schools don't have enough time to add new facilities or repair facilities.…

Have you ever considered switching to year round schooling? Here are some reasons not to switch, the summer time is packed and expensive, it’s harder for students and teachers, and finally there is a greater possibility for brain drain. In the article “Top 10 Reasons Why Year Round School is a Good Idea,” it states that by having one big vacation block, travel is more expensive. No matter the amount of time you get for summer you will still wind up spending more because both of the summer breaks, for year round and regular schooling, are during the summer months which are when airlines raise their prices. Also, by having less time off there is less time to play sports and hangout with family which is what most kids, like myself, look forward too. Another statement from the article said that breaks that are frequent are good for both students and teachers. With more frequent breaks the teachers will have to cram in all the information before each break. Students look forward to days off of school, but if breaks are more frequent, then they won’t get as excited because the breaks happen so…

According to Ebsco host, “Year-Round schooling”, academic wise, year round school students have prone to do better than Traditional Calendar students. Some studies have found that during summer, learning loss is a real problem. With Year round school students wouldn’t have that problem. With a shorter summer break, students wouldn’t have to spend that much time in beginning of a new school year reviewing. Year round school calendars are much more different, you have a 45/15 model or others have a 60/20 model. Primarily, year round schools will disrupt both the families and teachers while the traditional school year does not. This is because; year round schools will eliminate most of the highly anticipated summer vacation making it much shorter than usual. Long summer breaks are a cherished culture for some families, as it is a perfect occasion for relations to spend time together since both the parents and students have a sufficient amount of time off. During the mid-year breaks [i.e. March Break], many parents do not have the time because they are still at work. However, if summer vacation is shortened, parents can no longer use all their free time to spend with their kids because the children are in school learning. There will not be enough time to travel and complete all the planned activities. That is why; the new school calendars quickly became unpopular with parents in America. Dede Schaffner, a spokesperson for the Seminole County district, says, "The disruption of family life was what everyone was complaining about, people said it was conceivable that with kids at school during the summer, you could never have your whole family together." ("Year-round Schooling Rejected"1996/24 February, 2005) In addition to less family time, year round schooling also provides other concerns for parents. Guardians will have to worry about finding…

Some teachers have suggested that summer break should be shortened and other breaks should be longer so that students have less time to forget content. Parents and students argue that students need time in the summer more than other times because that is more convenient to them. Parents have certain dates they can be off, so having a longer time in somer…

Many schools in the United States are beginning to change their school calendar so their students attend class all year round. The changes still allow the students time off in the summer, but they do not have the three months of break most students in America receive traditionally. Instead, they get a break of a couple weeks in the summer, and the remainder of the time is divided up and put into other breaks throughout the year. All schools in America should switch to a year-round calendar to accommodate the different and higher level of learning needed to be successful in our changing world and society. The traditional school system was designed many years ago when our country was an agricultural nation. Therefore, the school calendar was developed having a long break in the summer so students could assist their family with cultivating crops and other aspects of farm life. The traditional school calendar was not a calendar for higher learning, and should be extended to meet the needs of modern day students. There are many explanations as to why the traditional school calendar should be changed.…
