As a society, we have made many efforts to get rid of slavery and exploitation of fellow humans. Why? This is because a life is worth much more than any money that a human trafficker gains from harming another life and taking away someone’s freedom. It is wrong to steal another person’s right to life and happiness. There are still many cases of human trafficking and slavery in the United States of America, but trafficking and abuse is highly frowned upon and will hopefully land the abuser in jail. Although it’s obvious that enslaving other lives is invidious and morally wrong, there are many sane, good people who are condoning trafficking and exploitation of innocent animals every day. There is a clear issue of anthropocentrism in our society. Why is the abuse of a human life any different than that of an animal’s? All creatures are cognizant of the pain they experience. No money is worth causing suffering to innocent children and mothers. Consumers deserve to be educated on the making of animal products. I urge everyone to educate his or herself about the cruelty that goes on at dairy farms, and other factory livestock farms. It is important to be informed about what goes on to the animals that go into your food, makeup, clothes, and health care products. If you learn that an animal was harmed in the making of a product that you consume, try to avoid or completely eliminate that item. CEOs will not always take advice from letters or complaining emails. They will pay attention to their company losing money. Not giving your hard earned dollars to companies who condone animal cruelty is the best way to speak out against these sins. Boycotts do work. Don’t fund slavery.
