minute-by-minute count. The current count for this year shows more than 64 billion wasted cans and bottles! Also bottled water promotes fossil fuel usage which creates carbon dioxide and adds to the already big amount in the atmosphere which can lead to global warming. Some people could say that it is easier having a bottle of water in class then having to go out to the water fountains, but what do people do with the water bottles after they are finished drinking them well they throw them away into the trash can not the recycle bin.
The water bottles also make a lot of noise which could be distracting for some peers, and in some state’s cities have already banned bottled water like Concord, Massachusetts, and San Francisco, California. Water bottles can be very accessible but why spend money for multiple water bottles when you could make a one time purchase on a refillable metal water bottle. Even though the water may be purified the plastic cannot be and poses a threat to your health due to the chemicals in the plastic. The plastic contains bisphenol A (BPA) in the plastic container, and these compounds can seep into the water, which means you are probably consuming them. The risk is greatly increased if water content is stored in very warm areas, like areas with direct
sunlight. Bottled water can be big distractions in a school environment and most of the time they end up in the trashcan instead of the recycling bin. So banning bottled water in school would help to make other schools start banning bottled water then states would eventually ban bottled water and then the percent of bottled water that didn’t get recycled would start decreasing.
