Catfishing, sounds fun right? Sure is, if you're talking fish, unfortunately some "catfishers" have a different prey in mind. Catfishing is populary known for deception with the security of todays technology. These "fishermen" target vulnerable people who most of the time don't even know they're hooked! "Catfishers" are not the only fishermen out at sea looking for an easy catch, hackers and scammers send out bots or malware looking for unprotected systems to target, and steal your private information. Failing to protect your PC is like leaving your door unlocked, anyone can walk in and take whatever they want from you. So how can you secure your computer from those with malicious intent? According to the articles "Catfishing:Realing them in" and "Firewalls" there are three effective ways to protect yourself and others online. Installing firewalls/anti-virus software, verifiying their indentity by meeting them in person, and visit only verified websites with a good reputation. …show more content…
Starting with the first action, installing firewalls and anti-virus, the article "Firewalls" goes in-depth about how these are important here "While firewalls filter and limit incoming transmission of data that tries to access the system, anti-virus software looks at how the data affects your system". This shows why it's critical to have both a firewall and anti-virus software installed. If you install only a firewall then as soon as its been breached, whoever invaded your system has access to all of your files and personal info with no anti-virus to stop them. It's the same for firewalls, if you are without one, the virus can access your device much easier than a device with both anti-virus and a firewall installed. It's very important to have both installed for maximum security to deter hackers, scammers, and spy

Just never log on to your computer and never connect it to the internet. So while simple yes, you cannot do that as it would defeat the purpose of owning a PC or having a company with many of them. There are free programs out there that may help from your computer from being hacked. One program is the Microsoft baseline security analyzer (MBSA). Another program is Sysinternals, there are also some security programs build into the windows OS which are NetBIOS and TCP/UDP. A good practice to prevent hacking is to have multiple security programs working hand in hand with each other. Which in turn may make your computer possible harder to crack into and thus making a hacker possibly turn his attention elsewhere. Installing multiple firewalls around vulnerable programs also helps against being a soft target for hackers. Having to crack through or maneuver around them. You have to be continually testing your network and system to ensure that you have no cracks in your armor. Staying vigilante would be another good practice to partake in to help combat your computer being hacked into. You should always want to stay one step ahead of anyone trying to crack your…

There are two jobs that no children ever want to do when they grow up. Not one child tells their parents, ‘I want to be a gleaner when I grow up,' or ‘I want to be a dumpster diver.' Every child grows up thinking they are going to be a doctor or an astronaut when they get their parents age and they are going to be rich. Wouldn't there be something wrong with a kid who wanted to be something other than the best? As I have read more about dumpster diving and gleaning, I have began to wonder if it is really that bad. Why shouldn't a child want to grow up to be either the dumpster diver or the gleaner?…

During the end of the American Civil War, Barton worked at a hospital she made helping the people at the Andersonville prison camp where 13,000 people died.…

Sharks have always been an important part of Earth. Many cultures - beyond just the Chinese with their famous shark fin soup - consider them to be powerful symbols, deities, or sacred animals. They help keep the ecosystem in check. This, in turn, highly benefits the economy. It’s difficult to imagine a world without sharks - considering that sharks have existed for over 400 million years (What If There Were No Sharks?). This makes them approximately three million eight hundred years older than us. Unfortunately, with the rise of anti-shark movies such as Jaws, people have begun to fear sharks. Many of them wish to kill them, and will not mourn their loss. However, if one looks deeper into this solution, one will discover a myriad of problems. Problems which are guaranteed to occur if shark culling is continued. If the ocean is to be saved and humans are to be kept safe, an environmentally safe alternative to shark culling must be discovered.…

Nowadays, most people think slavery had ended for over 150 years ago. However, over the course of decades, the forms of slavery changes which make it hard for the public to see. Modern slavery also known as Human Trafficking occurs due to population explosion, migration from different countries, corruption in government, and social discrimination. For instance, human beings are treated like a product in labor trafficking. In organ trafficking, transplant surgeries continued to rise as the number of organ trade rise as well. In fact, women, men, and children are forced to go into commercial sex industry and they are held against their will through unlawful debt bondage, fraud, or coercion. So far I’ve established a basis of healthcare and education as building blocks to ending sex trafficking. But all the access to healthcare and education will not stop the problems of human trafficking without the aid of law enforcement. By “turning the other cheek”, law enforcement in the Middle East, Congo, India, etc., are enabling brothel owners to continue on in their lucrative business. And as a society we shouldn’t accept this. Law enforcement has the power to put an end to brothels and place brothel owners, along with men who rape and beat women and girls and purchase women and girls for sex, in prison. But instead the law enforcement tends to take “bribes” to not see what is going on within their own jurisdiction. And government officials are not behind the cause to stop sex trafficking in their countries by empowering their women and girls and encouraging prison sentences of the…

Did you know that vending machines are bigger killer than sharks? And that 10 people are killed by sharks worldwide every year? Yet we continue to kill 10 million sharks every year. Shark culling was implemented in WA in 2013 to protect swimmers, with great whites being targeted, although 50 species of sharks including great whites, are listed as vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered. The system isn’t cheap either with the government paying fisherman $610 000 for 107 days of the catch and kill program. This figure is not including the costs of drumlines and other programs helping the mitigation. We know that the ocean is the shark’s territory and people should need to make the decision whether to take the risk when entering the water. To elucidate my argument, I will explain in three different parts, the damage that it can cause on the ecosystem, the government are contradicting themselves by killing endangered species and that many other things are killing people at a faster rate.…

Sharks have been the ocean’s apex predators since 200 million years ago. Yet shark populations have been rapidly declining since humans began the worldwide practice of shark finning. This is the process of removing the fins from sharks then throwing the body back into the ocean left to die slowly. Shark fins are popular targets for fishermen because of their high value although the issues caused by this practice are widespread, inhumane and damaging to almost every ecosystem. Shark fins have been considered a delicacy in the Chinese culture since the Sung Dynasty in AD 968, in a dish called Shark Fin Soup.…

Well, One of the first steps you can take is to add firewalls to your computer so that scams and viruses are less likely to "bug" your computer. Also, one of the major steps, always make sure not to give out your personal information and only shop on secure websites. I never give out any personal information of mine online unless it is 100 percent secure. If it is not secure somebody else could have your identity very quick. Costing you a lot of money. I definitely do not want my identity stolen. Most “secure” websites will have a logo saying “Website Secured.”These steps will help ensure that some negative activity does not occur.…
