In this TLC lab, we explored the relative polarities of Acetylsalicylic Acid, Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, and Caffeine based on their functional groups. The most overall polar analgesic is considered to be the analgesic that contained the most polar function groups. The amine and amide functional groups are the most polar. In this experiment, we found that both these functional groups are found in Caffeine. As a result, Caffeine was the most polar out of Acetylsalicylic Acid, Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, and Caffeine. Aside from Caffeine, Acetaminophen has one amide functional group. This makes it the second most polar analgesic. In addition, Acetylsalicylic Acid has an ester group. Since ester group is not as polar as either amine or amide groups,…

After that came a majority of Middle school/ Elementary. Finally the High schoolers played Nightmare Before Christmas, Believe, Trombone Under the Tree, and lastly Frosty the Snowman. This concert went fairly smoothly, and we all sounded really good. This years concert was filled beautiful songs, struggles, and in the end had a very merry outcome.…
On Tuesday, December 8th, the Allen High School Philharmonia and Sinfonietta orchestras performed a variety of fascinating pieces. The orchestras began the concert with “Holiday Dances by Mark Williams". The next piece that the orchestras performed was “Saint Nick’s Canon on the Housetop” arranged by Carrie Lane Gruselle. The last piece that the AHS Philharmonia and Sinfonietta orchestras performed was “We Wish you a Merry Christmas” arranged by Lloyd Conley.…
On Monday, 18 November 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in Evergreen Presbyterian Church the Rhodes College Orchestra and Wind Ensemble performed the Baroque-N Christmas. The event was open to the public, to share their joy for the upcoming holiday. The program included the Palladio, the Suite for Strings, the Chasing Sheep is Best Left for Shepherds, the Alleluia, the Variants on a Mediaeval Tune, and the Concerto Grosso in G Minor, Op.6, No.8. I was very eager to attend the concert because the Baroque-N Christmas included works from the Baroque Era, which is my favorite period of artistic style. Leah McGray was the conductor and Jennifer Rote was the flute soloist for the Rhodes College Wind Ensemble; I don’t remember their being a concert master, which I thought was odd.…
American families derive pleasure in viewing Christmas movies, and the hyperbolized plots give children and adolescents, the most influential individuals in society, unreasonable expectations, which affect their practicality. According to the website, “Problems with Christmas Curriculum,” published by Steven A. Gelb, the standard formula used to create the plot of hundreds of holiday movies, shows the same fantasized version of Christmas, which makes one’s choice of how they would want their holiday to take place, difficult. Although several individuals would like the reality of a holiday to more closely resemble the television-version, visual settings, reasons for celebrating, and the holiday’s ending make individual unrealistically expect a more romanticized version of Christmas.…
To conclude, the themes and characters of the two Christmas classics, “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “A Christmas Carol”, have similarities beyond compare while still having contrasting variations of their own stories. Aspects that only one or the other possess, is what brings these stories to…
The most important key to success, especially in music, is repetition alongside with determination. This is probably the most difficult part of the entire process, because it entirely relies on your efforts. Preseason is the time in marching band where your willingness to work hard and repeat the same drill over and over again will either bring you success or failure. After the first couple sweat drenched days of preseason, my enthusiasm began to lessen, as thoughts about giving up surfaced upon my brain. It is not easy to wake up every day at 7 in the morning and end the day at 11 at night and keep enthusiasm, but the energy of everybody else around me helped me realize that it can be accomplished. I could have given up and quit, but that would have been taking the easy way out. If everybody else can make it through this week, so can I. So I pushed myself to my limits, tried as hard as I could, did the drill over and over, marched until I was sore, and then kept on…

A great work of art that has a great impact on my life is the novel A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickson. The story tells of a cold hearted, selfish business man named Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by his deceased business partner Jacob Marley and three ghosts on Christmas Eve. Jacob Marley who chained tells Scrooge that he should change his way or he will be punished in the after life. Marley beged for Scrooge to be given a chance to change. The ghost’s job is to persuade Scrooge to change his ways to avoid punishment in the afterlife. The three ghosts show Scrooge past, present, and future events that help Scrooge realize he is wrong and changes Scrooge into a better person. The story has had an impact on my life in many ways. The story taught me that a person’s behavior is a product of their past. If a person is unkind, it is the events that happened in their past that has made them who they are. It’s a reminder that showing compassion toward unkind people can make them a happier. The story has also taught me to treat people with kindness and respect. Lastly the story has taught me to always help the less fortunate because a little kindness can change a person's life.…
Due to the financial crisis there have been many changes made to government programs to reduce costs and help with debt. Many of these cuts are happening statewide, in America’s public schools. The first programs that are being cut are the art programs, and the excuse is that the core classes are more important. The argument is that children need to be more focused on test scores in Math, Science, English and History. It is unfair to single out art classes, there should be a more even spread of budget cuts, not just the sole elimination of the arts. There are parents who are indifferent with the arts and they are unfazed by their removal from elementary public schools. What many of these parents do not recognize is that there are actually benefits of the arts that help with core subjects. Some benefits are strengthening problem solving skills, stimulating critical thinking and helping developmental growth. There is also a duel component that shows that there is a direct correlation between SAT test scores and art programs in schools, as well as higher participation and attendance. It has also been shown that the arts can help boost the economy.…

Have you ever wondered if football is a more dangerous sport than soccer? Football is a contact sport. You can get tackled in football but you can’t get tackled in soccer. You’re more prone to get injured in football than you are in soccer. A higher number of injuries result in contact sports. To help prevent injuries, both sports have rules that enforce the use of safety equipment…
Gangs used to be about just wearing the wrong colors or being on the wrong street. Now gang life is about drugs, weapons, payback, and recruiting new members. Children are being killed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Mothers are losing their children because of gang violence. Crime is constantly rising because of the street gangs. Also, the property value is going down because of the areas with more gang violence.…
