Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers in the United States, but that can be prevented. The Safe Teen and Novice Driver Uniform Protection Act (STAND UP Act) has been designed to change that statistic. The STAND UP Act is pushing to have all states create a Graduated License System with requirements for new drivers on the road. I believe the STAND UP Act can have a huge impact on new and novice drivers. By voting yes on the approval, the number of deaths can be minimized, of teenage drivers and of the others impacted by their sometimes careless driving.

Each letter in STAND UP Act has a meaning and I believe it will have a positive impact because it sets the law straight for teenagers. Besides S, which is basically just stating that each state would have to follow the following guidelines, there is a valuable law following the other letters. if teens were able to go by the given laws, I think PA would be able to see a dramatic change in our death by teenage driving statistic. For example, there are three stages of licensing - learner's permit, intermediate stage, and full licenses. Age 16 should be the earliest for entries into the learners permit process. With set guidelines, teenagers will be given the opportunity to learn what is safe and what isn't. Although we don't necessarily notice it, many more teenagers are impacted because of careless mistakes. The STAND UP Act is designed to give teenagers and novice drivers guidelines to follow until they are around 18 because by then they will have a better understanding and sense of the world around them.
