According to the ASPCA, approximately 7.6 million animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those 7.6 million animals, 2.7 million of them are euthanized (“Pet Statistics”). When one goes about adopting an animal, animals are given a second chance at a healthy, happy, new home. A vast majority of the population, will avoid the risk of owning an animal with possible health and psychological issues. Without knowledge of the animals’ history, adoption should be a better way to go about searching for a soon to be companion because it decreases the rate of homeless animals and allows them a second chance. When adopting an animal also comes with uncertainty and hesitation. A soon to be owner is looking into finding their new best friend, yet still unknowingly do not know the animal’s past living conditions and experiences.
