This social media world, one which news now has to revolve around, changes things for the reporter themselves. In an effort to get out information on sites like Twitter, reporters often ‘retweet’ other tweets for their followers. Sometimes, however, these retweets may seem like they are an endorsement of whatever information –possibly reported with someone else’s bias– and so some reporters have to explicitly say that, “RTs do not = endorsement.” (Tapper) A similar situation has been true of Bonnie Laden, a producer for CBS4, who will only post something on her social media if she deems it newsworthy and important. When she posted about an interview with Trump on her account, people that she knew started attacking her. Some claimed she was for one side and some claimed she was against it but, “fortunately it was only personal messages so I didn’t have to actually delete them from my page, but people who have known me my entire life, since I was literally a baby in a crib, calling me out and accusing me of being biased towards Trump regardless of what they think they know about me or don’t know about me,” Bonnie said, “I have to tell you that it actually can get quite hurtful when it’s people that you think have known you your entire life and kind of know who you are and what you stand for.” (Laden) As many will tell you, a job that you don’t enjoy is not a job worth having, but the situation with reporters can be much worst in that their job can make them lose their friends or family because of bias, and for many that may not be a risk worth
