Pitbulls were bred for a greater purpose than fighting. Pitbulls are not dangerous or mean. There are many misconceptions and false information about Pit Bulls. Attacks do not come for no reason at all. If a person wants to blame anyone it should be the owner not the dog. Some may feel the true need to ban the dog from their country or state. These feelings come from attacks from the dog or common lies and false facts. Pit Bulls began in Greece. Thier bloodline starts with the Mastiff. dog was transferred to rome for entertainment:
“Once in Rome, the British dogs were crossbred with their Roman counterparts. From the years 50 AD to 410 AD, the breed was widely disseminated throughout the Roman Empire for use as fighting dogs. Along the way they mixed with other indigenous breeds throughout Europe, creating a genetic melting pot for the bulldogs.”(History Pit Bull)
The Olde English Bulldog was used in the 1800, originally for baiting. Baiting is when a dog is chained to somethinunable to move while other dogs injure it, sometimes causing death. In 1835 bull baiting was said inhumane and was made illegal, and dog fighting became a popular alternative for people (Reflecting on Pit). Soon the Olde English Bulldog was crossed with a terrier to create a tougher and more agile breed for fighting, and the Pit Bull Terrier was made. When immigrants were brought to America on a ship they brought valuables and their dogs with them. They were now used to protect farms in the country. Farmers depended on their skills to help hunt hogs(Reflecting on Pit). Twelve countries in total have banned Pit Bulls.
These countries are New Zealand, France, Brazil, Canada, Belgium, Finland, Denmark, Poland, and Puerto Rico. In the United States instead of saying we have bans on certain dogs we say we have Breed Specific Legislation, or BSL for short. Breed Specific Legislations are laws and regulations enacted at the city or country level, that ban or restrict the keeping of dogs by breed. (Greenwood). The dogs most affected by this law are Chow Chows, Dobermans, Rottweilers, and especially Pit Bulls. Fifteen States in the United States have no Breed specific Legislation. Legislation. Dog fighting is most common with Pit Bulls. After baiting was made illegal people began using them for fighting. Most people would believe that the pitbull was born a fighter and very aggressive. however, that is not at all the case. Breeders teach the animals to be aggressive from when they are able to walk and see. They abuse them by beating them and other tortuous teachings. They say they beat to “toughen them up” however this only makes the animal more prone to attack when anyone approaches them (Fact vs Fiction). In my opinion Pit Bulls are not dangerous whatsoever.
It is his owner that decides whether or not it becomes viscous. If a pitbull is mistreated and abused it will become dangerous and will be more likely to hurt another person or animal. If the owner treats the dog correctly and cares for him, he will grow to be a loving animal. Even dogs who have been mistreated and used in dog fights with their previous owner have been able to be rehabilitated. Many of the dogs of former football player Michael Vick have been able to relive a different lifestyle. There are several stories of his dogs being adopted and becoming a complete other
dog. In opposition, people say that it is a great idea that Pit Bulls are banned in countries, and states. They think that banning the breed will reduce the amount of them, and eventually get rid of it completely. People say because they com from a fighter bloodline that fighting is instilled in them, and that you cannot remove that from within them. Which is absolutely false, all dogs that are treated correctly from birth will grow to be the most loving dog .It is believed that banning pit bulls will resolve and reduce the amount of attacks. however there is no corresponding evidence of the two. Pit Bulls may have a bad reputation but that does not mean that all things said are true. They aren't aggressive unless you make them that way. The way any animal behaves is based on their owner. Attacks do not correspond with Breed Specific Legislation. Although there is Breed Specific Legislation in twelve countries the law is slowly becoming unnecessary. Pit Bulls have never been dangerous and this is being learned by the countries that have banned them.
