Heart-warming acts can be observed from the news and all parts of our community. The onset of the haze has once again proved that the people living in Singapore are able to work together in order to protect our health of one another. Tai Hwa Construction and Marican Brothers have gotten all their workers N95 masks in order to safeguard their health. The Ministries, Grassroots, parents, caregivers and many other groups have come up with measures to safeguard the health and safety of everyone.
Since the onset of the haze, we have observed a sharp demand in for N95 masks that is essential for safeguarding our health by preventing us from inhaling the polluted air. Many of us have trouble finding N95 masks in pharmacies and hospitals. A study done by the Great Air Group (GAG) has revealed that the price of N95 masks have grown by 150%, which lead to great effects as it is an essential product during this period of crucial need. A previous blog entry by Ms Desire Pereira has addressed this lack of N95 masks and questioned who GAG would distribute our supply of N95 masks to.
GAG currently has 40,000 masks on standby and we would be distributing them to the public. Groups who are in greater need for the mask would be the top priority. It is dangerous to expose individuals that have severe lung and heart conditions. Also, pregnant ladies and individuals who have asthma are vulnerable groups. In addition, workers who work for prolonged hours are much in need for these masks. They include construction workers, sweepers, cleaners and domestic helpers. Lee Kuai Seng, a senior doctor from Tan Tock Seng Hospital, stated that these workers have a 150% greater chance of falling ill when exposed to pollution for prolonged periods. Distributing the masks to these groups would:
Protect their heath and reduce chances of relapse and sickness by 50%
