There are many misconceptions about the quality of animals found in shelters and rescues. The stigma that their animals are "damaged goods." This might be the case occasionally this is not reality. For almost 3 years now I volunteer at the animal shelter in Copperas Cove, although the animals at first seem like “damaged goods” in actuality 9 out of 10 times the animal is just scared, confused, and lonely. In CCAS last year alone they impounded a little over 2000 domestic animals, over 50% of these animals impounded were dogs. Of those animals impounded - 366 went to rescues, and were only able to adopt only 464 out; sadly, they had to euthanize over 800 animals. CCAS impounded almost 600 more animals in 2012 than in 2011. What I find the hardest to believe is that from the total animals impounded at the CCAS in 2012 is the fact that almost 400 animals were from owner turn in, and the rest were just roaming the streets.
This leads to another misconception about shelters and rescues is that animals are in shelters because they did not make good pets. In
