Body
1.
In classrooms.
The main problem for using cell phones in classroom is that it disturbs the teaching process and students' attention.
- According to MoveWeb website, once a cell phone rings and is answered, the student's focus on classroom discussion is lost. The attention in the classroom goes to the person on the phone, even if the phone is hung up immediately (Disturbing, 2007).
- Many students cannot talk on cell phones in their classroom, so they text message to their friends or partners to find out where they are, who they are with, and what they are doing. While the students are waiting for the reply texts, they tend to lose their concentration from what the teacher is teaching (Technology, 2007).
Besides calls and text messages, cell phones also help relieve students' boredom. Many students play games on their cell phones when they are bored in class, which shows a lack of respect to their teacher (Answer, 2007).
Students should know when is the right time to turn off their cell phones (Disturbing, 2007).
2. Accompanying friends or family.
According to MediaShift website, you are supposed to be with the people you are with physically, not with the people who are calling you on your cell phone. Nothing is more of an insult to the people you are with than taking a phone call and chatting away, wasting the precious time you are together (Definitive Guide, …show more content…
2007).
According to Physorg website, seven percent of respondents said the use of cell phones had caused them to lose a relationship or a job (Addicted, 2007).
If it is possible, ignore the call and focus on the people that you are with physically (Definitive Guide, 2007).
3. Driving.
According to Safetypolicy website, drivers who use a cell phone while they are driving, even with hands-free sets, incur more than four times the risk of being in a crash than when the phone is not in use (Injury Prevention, 2004).
- This level of risk is comparable to driving with a blood alcohol content above the legal limit in many states of United States.
The problem with talking on the phone is that people actually have to think about what they are saying. Therefore, it reduces driving performance and increases the risks of accidents (Banning Mobiles, 2003).
According to Patti Pena, who had lost her two-year-old daughter, Morgan Lee, from the accident by a driver who failed to stop for a stop sign while using his cell phone (Salvation Out, 2006).
- On November 2, 1999, Patti and Morgan were on the way back from visiting Patti's sister. While she was driving, she came to a stop sign, which she could have made a left or a right to go home, and usually she makes a left. However, on this day she decided to turn right. A few minutes later, she felt a crash and their car flew across the road into an embankment. She quickly turned around to check on Morgan, but what she sees was Morgan Lee in her favorite hat full with blood and was not breathing. Patti jumped out of the car and started screaming. She was shocked with what is happening to her little daughter. However, she fought and could passed through that horrible time, but still have to live with the horrible pain
every single day to lost her loved one.
Please, when you are driving, turn off your cell phone. However, if you need to turn it on and someone is calling you, pull over to have that conversation (Definitive Guide, 2007).
Save a life because it could be your own life that you are saving (Definitive Guide, 2007).
Conclusion
In my conclusion, the three main points are in classrooms, accompanying friends or family, and driving. I have persuaded you to reduce the use of your cell phones because the use of cell phones in public spaces are annoying and disturbing, interrupting other activities, and can even be perceived as improper behavior in many social situations.
