The hospital is also looking for approval to become a degree-granting institution for graduate students who are studying biomedical research (Charlier,…

2 years ago when I was 10 years old, I had lost ten pounds in only 2 weeks. I was exhausted, drained of all energy, sometimes I couldn't eat it made me so nauseous but sometimes I couldn't get enough food in me, I was always thirsty and I always craved sugar. After a week of this I was rushed to the hospital after I saw the doctor. While I was in the hospital I wasn't allowed to eat for 24 hours, I was starving. On the second day in the hospital I left the intensive care unit and went home, but for the next 2 weeks I had to go back to the hospital for training every other day. While the incidence of childhood cancer has changed only slightly since Candlelighters inception in 1970 (an increase from 11.4 per 100,000 population in 1974 to 14.8 per 100,000 in 2004), the overall survival rate for childhood cancer has increased drastically during that time period. Today, the overall 5 year survival rate for childhood cancer is close to 80%. Because treatment cure rates have increased, the population of childhood cancer survivors has also increased. Currently there are estimated to be 270,000 survivors of childhood cancer in the U.S. This equates to one in 640 young adults between the ages of 20 to 39 being a survivor of a childhood…

After high school the common thought is, that the worst is over, but truth be told, the worst has just begun. I came into composition believing that I was already a strong writer and would do well. I wanted to finally shed some light on the subject and finally see if the argument was valid. Was stem cell research as gruesome as it is made out to be?…

Imagine that one of the only treatments that can save you is crippling your health at the same time. When chemotherapy is pumped through a patient's veins, it takes a toll. Some feel, that merely being alive is worth the pain these children endure. However, cancer treatment causes temporary side effects, as well as many that will be with a child for the rest of their life. New technology and advances can help find a better way to save these children, and ensure no relapse, while decreasing side effects. Research is also needed since pediatric cancer needs to be treated differently than adult cancers due the the anatomy of the children. That being said, much less is known about combating the disease for the children. Due to this, research is needed alongside, awareness, and funding to achieve my…
