Just imagine this, you’re on your way home from work you can hardly wait to get because your day had been more hectic than usual. You hear sirens coming so you pull over to let them pass. As you approach the accident ahead, you to think you recognize one of the cars involved. Now your heart is racing and when you get to the scene you find out the car belonged to your best friend who had just been killed by a teen who had been texting and driving. Can you ever imagine that happening to you? Neither could I, but in 2001 that’s exactly what happened to me. It was one of the most devastating moments of my life. Needless to say the 18 year doing the texting survived with a few injuries.
Texting Studies and Statistics:
A Nearly 1,000 crashes involving 16-17 year old drivers 1n 2007 B. Reported Deaths in 2012 is 3,300,
C. 46 % teen’s text and drive while 51 % just talk on phone –AAA survey of teen drivers The statistics and studies about teens and texting while driving are shocking and down-right scary. Here are some statistics I found to be alarming: As of 2011, there were over 5.6 billion cell phone users around the world, which accounted for approximately 79.86% of the world’s population (How Many Are There, 2012). Of these 5.6 billion users, in June of 2011, the United States accounted for approximately 3.2 million cell phones. (McGinn 2014) According to a U.S. study, teen driver fatalities increased by 19 per cent during the first half of 2012. Texting while driving is being cited as a major contributing factor, although other inattentive driving behaviors might also have played a role in this spike According to the AAA’s survey of teen drivers, 46 percent of the teens text message while driving and 51 percent talk on cell phones while driving.. The AAA Reports that car and traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for people ages 15 to 20 years old. (AAA.com) According to the U.S.A Realtime Current Death Toll as of 6:27pm today 10-05-2014 a total of 4557 deaths has occurred resulting from texting and driving. (romans 322.com Jan 1, - Oct 5, 2014). With the increasing ranks of cell phone ownership is an increase in text messaging, or texting. During 2008, more than 2.5 trillion text messages were sent worldwide--that 's an average of more than 400 messages for every person on the planet. Although many of the messages teenagers text each day are perhaps nothing more than "how r u?" or "c u l8r,"(see you later) texting plays an increasingly prominent role in the everyday lives of young people, and that role is not without controversy (Tilley, 2009). Teen driving dangers: According to a U.S. study, teen driver fatalities increased by 19 per cent during the first half of 2012. Texting while driving is being cited as a major contributing factor, although other inattentive driving behaviors might also have played a role in this spike
Guidelines to help stop texting and driving

C. Mind the kids & Secure your pets- pull over to addresses these issuers
D. Focus on driving – Behind the wheel is no place to try
multitasking
E. Spread the word-record a message let callers know you are driving will call them back
Practicing the guidelines mentioned will help make you a safer driver, and the roads a safer place to travel. Victims of texting while driving do not want to be known as a statistic So watch out for me keep your eyes on the road and don’t text and drive.
Conclusion
In our world of technology texting while driving has become the leading cause of distractive driving, which makes teens who are least experienced drivers the leading violators of texting while driving. Teens as well as anyone texting while driving needs to be aware of the dangers of this act. The deaths and injuries caused by texting while driving Is devastating to victims family and friends, I have experienced that devastation first hand, and hope never to experience it again. It’s important to remember no one wants to become a statistic of the devastation that can be caused by texting and driving. Victims of distractive drivers are more than a statistic they are human beings with families and other love ones who will have to live with the devastating aftermath the rest of their lives
I urge everyone especially teens to take the pledge not to text and drive, you can help to save a life, and the life you safe may be your own. DON’T TEXT AND DRIVE!
