“Shortly after Hayden’s fifth birthday, he began having headaches and nausea. At first, the doctor thought he had migraines and asked his mother to keep a record of when his head hurt. After only a short period of time, Hayden’s headaches grew more frequent. Then, he began having trouble with the vision in his right eye causing him to see double. It was at this point, his mother knew there was a bigger issue at hand.…
Dr. Don Berwick, Head of Medicare/Medicaid 2010-2011 whom talks about how unsustainable the healthcare system is. We’re spending almost twice as much in America as any other country on earth. Yearly, we have been spending $2.7 trillion in healthcare. The average per capita cost of healthcare in the developed world is about $3,000, but in the United States, it was around $8,000 annually, more than double. Due to these astronomical amounts, healthcare has not become affordable anymore. Insurance companies are raising their rates they are charging for premiums, covering less on patient care, which in turns takes even more money out of our pockets because we now not only have to pay the premiums, but are now left with the portion of the care given that we must pay for out of our pockets.…
The quality and cost problems of the U.S. health care system are not going away. The…
You’re visiting the hospice for the twenty third day in a row, the bright flickering of the fluorescents and the squeaking of the linoleum floor greet you as you walk in. You are visiting your great grandmother, whose ninety three years old with a broken neck, who is unable to speak or eat. She hasn’t talked to you in several weeks due to the feeding tube and has lost the ability to move. She is a hollow shell of the woman she once was and her bright blue eyes have been fading endlessly every day. Her funny and bubbly attitude has become crushed and every single day as you leave you think to yourself if she should still continue living or not with the way she is. That’s when she’s able to finally talk and whispers “I don’t want to live anymore,”…

People are not receiving the proper care that they really should be getting. Doctors are charged a fee every time they gain a patient. It is going to expand Medicaid, more people with insurance will cause more patients seeking the treatments they need. Many employers have greatly recommended their workers to pay out of pocket to the cost of their health care.…

American liberty is a rare diamond in the world. To find a culture like us would be extremely tedious and we most likely would never find one which would have been showered with equivalent blessings as us. The color that our founders splashed into the fabric of our country, is coveted by all no matter how much they deny it. As we all may know, freedom isn't a life without government. Human nature demands a government to keep us all in check and to continue life in relative peace. Too much government and there is tyranny and too little forms anarchy. A gray balance is what the founders sought for. Beyond the expectations of the mocking outside world, they created a government which kept the freedom for people to follow their own desires and…
I understand that you, along with congress, work hard to address important issues. I want to commend you for all the work you have done and are doing. Unfortunately, I’m writing to ask if you and congress members would kindly give a little more thought into health care reform. The good outweighs the bad in this case.…
It seems as though the cost of healthcare is more expensive with the ACA rather than with most Americans current health insurance. According to statistics, the cost of healthcare under the ACA has skyrocket to 7.3% in the past decade. For a family of four, the average cost of healthcare has just nearly doubled. With a high bill to pay for the insurance itself. Those who are insured by the ACA are paying for quantity of care and not for the quality of it. Recently there has been a shortage in doctors and nurses in hospital facilities across the country. Not having enough healthcare providers leave unattended to patients. When these patients are seen, for instance, they are not taken care properly as they should because that doctor may be in a hurry to move to the next patient. As a result this patient might have been miss diagnosed or not diagnosed at all even though there is indeed something wrong with them. Not only will patients not be seen with the right intensions but they will have longer waiting times. Usually in a hospital, doctor’s office, or clinic there is a waiting period for that patient to be called upon but with only one professional seeing everyone, makes the waiting times even…
However, there are numerous debates for and against the new changes to the healthcare industry. To be honest, I am unsure about where I tend to stand regarding the new healthcare industry changes. As a result, it seems that the healthcare costs are still going to be expensive for majority of Americans and it could be years before we determine if the changes implemented are effective. Consequently, the focus of the changes on preventive care, chronic disease management, quality of care, and reducing costs there has been a reduction in specialty care for individuals with chronic diseases and elderly patients with several comorbidities (Kuramoto, 2014). Therefore, future challenges can occur if there is no focus on specialty care due to the growing population of the elderly and/or high-risk patient profiles (Kuramoto, 2014). Overall, if some focus is set on specialty care for the high costs expenditures then clinical and costs outcomes can improve (Kuramoto, 2014). Furthermore, with focus on specialty care as well as preventive measures then the amount of hospital admissions will decrease, the readmission rate will lower, and it will lower unnecessary treatment protocols from primary care providers (Kuramoto, 2014). In addition, if Medicare, Medicaid, and other health insurance companies decide to lower the reimbursement rates too low then a…
“There are nearly 50 million Americans without health insurance. They pray every day they don't get sick because 18,000 of them will die this year, simply because they're uninsured” (Sicko). Like Rick, who cut off both his ring finger and middle finger and was forced to decide which finger he would rather get reattached; the middle finger for $60 000, or the ring finger for the price of $12 000 (Sicko). American people spend more on healthcare than anyone, and according to CNBC.com, the U.S. spent an average of $9,086 per person on health care in 2013 (Mangan, US health-care spending is high) as well as paying lucrative prices for medications. Many are starting to question the integrity of the hospitals when they make the decision to dump patients that are unable to pay and some uninsured patients on the street, and abandon the sick to protect profits (Sicko). Private health care is based on the simple age old policy of supply and demand. As a result of too expensive private health care, there are 50 million Americans that go without health insurance and access to affordable care (Sicko). On unfortunate occasions, health care costs can rise rapidly, leaving patients with little choice but to go into debt to pay for care…
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obama Care has been a hot controversial topic that aroused back in 2008 when President Obama, at that time Senator Obama put onto the plate while running for the presidential seat. While there are many different perspectives related to this topic, it is up to each individual to decide whether it is beneficial or detrimental. In this day and age where the cost of living is rapidly escalating higher and higher and the unemployment rates are just as high. Most Americans tend to try staying away from medical bills. It is hard enough in today’s time to pay daily expenses, adding hospital bills is just too much to handle. Many times, we can feel something wrong in our bodies but ignore it just so we don’t have to visit a doctor and add another tab to our every day expenses.…

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…
