A New Civilization Rises Before the country of Peru was invaded by Spanish conquistadors and became independent, there stood the Indian tribe of the Incas. Even though most of the Inca population was wiped out, the lifestyle and culture survived the many long years and still prospers in the modern world. Though the industry and lifestyle of the people in Peru have drastically changed from what the Inca initially had, much of the culture today is based on the Inca’s beliefs. Before the country of Peru was founded, the Indian tribe called the Incas inhabited the area from about 1430-1530. As Spanish conquistadors explored the South America, they encountered the Incas. Although both sides were unfamiliar and astonished of their differences, the Conquistadors and Incas shared similar intentions of wiping out the other side. Because of their superior weaponry, the use of horses, and the aid of the surrounding Indian tribes, the Spanish conquistadors defeated the Incas. After the destruction of the Incan tribe, civilians from Spain started to migrate to the destroyed Incan civilization and started to colonize. As of 1821, the people living in the area claimed independence from Spain and declared themselves as the country named Peru. Although most of the Incan tribe was destroyed by Spanish conquistadors, the country of Peru still retains some aspects of Incan culture. Most of the music in Peru was inspired or created by the Incas. Yaravi is the oldest type of music in Peru and is created from Incan Poetry. Most of the people living in cities or towns are Roman Catholic. Although Roman Catholic remains as the most common religion practiced, people living in the Andes Mountains still worship the Sun God. Even though most of the Incan tribe was wiped out, there are people today who have ancestors from the Incan tribe when the Spanish arrived. Aside from Peru’s past history, they remain in an active economy. Agriculture is one of the main factors in their economy.

When the Spanish conquistadors came upon the Inca Empire, they realized that there were bountiful amounts of treasure such as gold and silver, which tempted them to conquer the empire and found their own colonies. Consequently, the conquistadors, led by Francisco Pizarro, fought the Inca and utilized their steel weapons and horses, as well as the smallpox virus to rout their enemies. The conquistadors easily defeated the Inca, who were already fighting a civil war before the Spaniards arrived. In order to legitimize their ruthless killing of the Inca, the Spaniards said that they were ridding God of His enemies and preventing the Inca from insulting His rule. The supposedly religiously motivated clash between the Spaniards and the Inca resulted in the decline of the Incan Empire and the expansion of Spanish rule throughout Central America. It wasn’t European intellectual superiority, but a war incited by religious beliefs, inner turmoil, as well as a smallpox-endemic that weakened and resulted in the conquest of societies in Central and South…

The Spanish conquistador, Francisco Pizarro (Pizarro) once argued, “There lies Peru with its riches; here, Panama and its poverty. Choose, each man, what best becomes a brave Castilian.” Reports of Peru 's riches and the heroic stories of other conquistador’s success against the Aztec Empire in Mexico tantalized all of Spain. This influenced Pizarro to plead with the Spanish king, Charles V, for permission to undertake an expedition to claim Peru, the home of the Inca Empire, in the name of the Spain in 1528. Francisco Pizarro was a Spanish conquistador who led an expedition that conquered the Inca Empire. Interestingly, through his father, he was a second cousin, once removed of Hernán Cortés. I guess the once removed apple doesn’t fall far from the once removed tree, ha. With his brothers and commission from Emperor Charles V. (unlike his once removed second cousin), Pizarro overthrew the Inca leader Atahualpa and conquered Peru. He founded the new capital city of Lima three years later. He claimed the land for Spain, and he killed Atahualpa despite the Peruvians/Incans paying the ransom. He forced Christianity onto them and forced them into serfdom. Thanks to his actions, many people died, and even now, he is still viewed negatively in the Peruvian…
