Peru is a country located in South America and in the Southern Hemisphere. Peru is mostly located in the same time zone as the eastern United States. Peru’s main trading partner is the United States. Peru receives things such as cereal, refined oil, machine parts, and chemicals. One major industry of Peru is gold. Peru is the sixth largest producer of gold in the world! Some natural resources of Peru include silver, copper, lead, oil, rubber, hardwood, and fish. The currency of Peru is the Peruvian nuevo sol. One Peruvian nuevo sol is equivalent to about thirty U.S. cents.
There are estimated to be around 30,000,000 people living in Peru. While the people of Peru speak over sixty different languages, there are only two official languages. The official languages of Peru are Spanish and Quechua. Most of the other languages are from the native tribes. The official religion of Peru is Roman Catholic. The literacy rate in Peru is around 88%. Education for ages 5-18 is free. Many families, however, do not have access to a school because a school building may be several miles away, which is too far for them to travel to receive an education.

They include Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun/ Incan New Year), Independence Day (July 28),and Semana Santa (Holy Week). The clothing in Peru is made out of alpaca wool. Dresses, skirts, tunics, blankets, and ponchos are many of the traditional clothing items that are worn. Lomo Saltado is a common dish whose ingredients include sliced beef stir-fried with red onions, tomatoes, Peruvian chilies, soy sauce, vinegar, and cilantro. Some use potatoes for their sandwiches instead of bread to make their sandwiches unique. Countless amounts of sports are played in Peru. Soccer, volleyball, gymnastics,and surfing are probably sports that you have heard of that are played in Peru. Sapo, a game usually played at restaurants, isn’t a sport that is common is the United States, which means it’s very likely that you have never heard of it. The game is played by placing a metal toad on a box with holes cut into it. Each hole has a certain number of points. The players throw metal disks and the frog and try to get the most points of all so they can win. While you may not ever get to see the massive gold supply of Peru, you can still research and find out more about it. It is so cool to see what it is really like in other countries. Peru was a fabulous country to report on because of how different it is in comparison to the United States. Peru may be in a different part of the world, but it is still a really cool culture
