RESEARCH PAPER: THE PETROLEUM PRODUCTS MARKETING INDUSTRY IN NIGERIA: WHAT ARE THE ISSUES?
ABSTRACT: The process of getting petroleum products off refineries and getting them to the costumer has become one of the biggest industries in the energy sector, with so much economic implications. Interestingly, petroleum products market is quite unique from the crude oil market, owing to the scale of operations, unique demand and market size. Petroleum products marketing is such a complex and wide-ranging industry, especially in most of the crude oil producing nations, where the products are regulated and the prices fixed by the Government. This paper analyses the Nigerian Petroleum Products Marketing Industry, with the aim of reflecting the industry’s operation in Nigeria, and in the light of the analysis provide probable forecast of how the industry may be headed in the near future, which is very important for both managers and investors.
