Evaluation Report for Resak Platform Organisational Structure

PETRONAS, short for Petroliam National Berhad, is a Malaysian-owned oil and gas company that was founded on August 17, 1974. Wholly owned by the Government, the corporation is vested with the entire oil and gas resources in Malaysia and is entrusted with the responsibility of developing and adding value to these resources. PETRONAS is ranked among Fortune Global 500 's largest corporations in the world. Fortune ranks PETRONAS as the 95th largest company in the world in 2008 and 80th largest in 2009. It also ranks PETRONAS as the 13th most profitable company in the world and the most profitable in Asia. As a main contributor to the PETRONAS profit among all of its OPU’s is PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd. We are focusing on PETRONAS Carigali Organizational Structure. During February 2011, an interview with Installation Manager of PETRONAS Carigali Sdn. Bhd. was conducted at Resak Platform for evaluating the organizational structure of his platform. To be more specific on this organization, see figure 1.

My study is on the Peninsular Malaysia Operation (PMO). Under this section, it divided into two sections; Offshore Operation and Onshore Operation. We are focusing on Offshore Operation. The platform name is Resak Platform which located in Peninsular Malaysia South China Sea. See figure 2. Figure 2

Resak Platform was built on 1998 by Sime Sembawang Sdn Bhd at Pasir Gudang. This Platform was start drilling on 1999 and the first gas produced by this platform is on January 2001. The main product from this platform is Natural Gas and Condensate. This Hydrocarbon then export to OGT via 28” pipeline under the sea after completed processed at
